  • Publication number: 20070120642
Abstract: A passive key fob reader for receiving a key fob and controlling actuation of a vehicle is provided with a “wake up” system that includes a sensor, such as a reed or Hall-effect switch which can sense the presence of a magnet on the key fob. The key fob is preferably provided with a magnet such that when inserted into the key fob reader, it wakes up the sensor, and causes the sensor to actuate a control to query the key fob and identify whether the key fob has an appropriate identification number. In a second embodiment, the sensor is located remotely from the key fob reader.

  • Publication number: 20060152367
Abstract: Medical prescription data is electronically written or captured with a RFID scanner device to an RFID tag. This RFID tag can be attached to a written or printed form of the prescription. This prescription RFID tag is read at the pharmacy using a RFID reader. The data written to the RFID tag contains prescription related information and optionally an encryption key to authenticate the prescription. The scanners and readers can be connected in a network link to a host environment. The RFID tag is optionally removed from the written prescription and attached to the medicine container in which the medicine is dispensed, at the pharmacy.

  • Patent number: 6983727
Abstract: An intake manifold includes a permanent runner which provides airflow communication between a plenum volume and a plurality of engine cylinders. An active runner assembly retracts into and extends from the permanent runner assembly in response to a drive system which communicates with a controller to selectively change the length of the intake manifold assembly to optimize performance. The permanent runner assembly includes a plurality of fixed length passages and the active runner assembly includes a plurality of active runner passages. Each active runner passage telescopes in and out of a respective fixed length passage to vary the effective length between the plenum and the engine cylinder.

  • Publication number: 20050184268
Abstract: A butterfly valve blade (16) is attached to a shaft (18) by a laser weld between an inner surface (24) of the butterfly valve blade (16) and the shaft (18). The shaft (18) includes a plastic portion (22) composed of a laser absorbent material. The butterfly valve blade (16) is formed of a laser transparent plastic material. A laser is directed through the butterfly valve blade (16) onto the plastic portion (22) of the shaft (18). Energy form the laser heats the laser absorbent material of the shaft (18) that melts in the presence of the laser. The butterfly valve blade (16) is heated by the heated shaft (18) to melt and form the desired weld that secures the butterfly valve blade (16) to the shaft (18).
