  • Patent number: 11909243
Abstract: Embodiments of information handling systems (IHSs) having rechargeable batteries and improved battery charge control methods are provided herein. For example, a method is disclosed for dynamically switching between a plurality of battery charging profiles, each having different recharge thresholds and charge termination thresholds for controlling battery recharge. Such a method may include detecting discharge current from a rechargeable battery of an IHS, determining whether or not the IHS is coupled to an external power source, and switching from using a first battery charging profile to using a second battery charging profile to recharge the rechargeable battery in response to detecting the discharge current while the IHS is coupled to the external power source and/or determining that the discharge current is a short term supplemental power event.

  • Patent number: 10635148
Abstract: An information handling system data port system includes plural data ports that support communication of data and power transfer with external devices, such as peripherals. A power transfer manager selectively establishes direct power transfer between data ports in support of power transfer between external devices, such as one external device acting as a power source and another external device acting as a power sink. The power transfer manager establishes direct power transfer with switches that bypass the information handling system power subsystem to provide improved power transfer efficiency.

  • Patent number: 10499540
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that that may be implemented to detect impeded flow of cooling air within a chassis enclosure of an information handling system based on sensed air pressure and/or air pressure changes occurring within the cooling air flow while the system is actively running. The systems and methods may be further implemented to take one or more thermal management actions based on sensed air pressure within the chassis enclosure together with other optional sensed parameters (e.g., such as sensed temperatures and/or sensed user operating mode based on accelerometer and/or gyroscope sensor input).

  • Patent number: 10281967
Abstract: An information handling system receives power from a reversible power cable by selectively configuring outer pins to provide power or communication with a middle pin providing ground. A power manager of an information handling system embedded controller uses a low level of power input to determine which outer pin provides power and which provides communication, and then configures the connector to route power at a high level to the system charger for powering the information handling system.

  • Patent number: 8793518
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for providing supplemental power to a battery powered information handling systems. The disclosed systems and methods may be implemented to intelligently control the selected use of supplemental power so as to reduce or substantially prevent an increase in battery usage cycle count by only allowing use of supplemental power above a given minimum supplemental battery charge level threshold. Battery cycle count may be further enhanced by only again allowing recharging of the system battery pack when its charge level drops below the minimum supplemental battery charge level threshold, and then recharging to a maximum recharge battery charge level threshold which also may be selectable by a user and/or provider of the information handling system.
