Patent number: 12323091Abstract: A floating solar photovoltaic system and a method for cooling a back surface of a photovoltaic panel are described. The floating solar photovoltaic system includes a rectangular float having a divided top platform and four interconnected walls, and a cross-shaped support configured to fit between the walls and holding four pontoons within openings formed thereby. An anchoring system maintains positional stability using concrete blocks interconnected by plastic-coated stainless-steel wires. A bi-facial solar photovoltaic panel is supported by the cross-shaped support, upon triangular braces, to generate electrical power from solar radiation. A waterproof control panel cabinet is also supported with the cross-shaped support. The floating solar photovoltaic system implements environmental monitoring through temperature and irradiance sensors, with data collection and wireless transmission capabilities.Type: GrantFiled: January 17, 2025Date of Patent: June 3, 2025Assignee: KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALSInventors: Shafiqur Rehman Hafez Waliullah, Kashif Irshad, Mohamed A. Patent number: 12181180Abstract: A solar photovoltaic powered phase change material thermal energy storage system includes a refrigerator unit having a phase change material (PCM) tank and a photovoltaic (PV) panel to provide electrical energy to the PCM tank to melt a PCM stored therein. The PCM tank includes a refrigeration coil immersed in the PCM and configured to circulate refrigerant to between the PCM tank and a condenser. Energy released and absorbed during solidification and melting of the PCM is used to support an air-conditioning (AC) unit and substitute power used by a compressor of the AC unit, to handle demand during peak hours, thereby reducing overall power requirement of a facility. The melting of the PCM is also controlled, so that the AC unit may operate with the aid of the PCM for longer duration during the day.Type: GrantFiled: July 23, 2024Date of Patent: December 31, 2024Assignee: KING FAHD UNIVERSITY OF PETROLEUM AND MINERALSInventor: Kashif Irshad
