  • Patent number: 11820920
Abstract: The present invention relates to a composition for use as an adhesive, paint, coating, resin, (surface) size, composite, gel or hydrogel, said composition comprising microfibrillated cellulose (“MFC”). In addition to microfibrillated cellulose, these compositions comprise at least one solvent, said solvent preferably comprising or consisting of water, and at least one compound that is (a) capable of polymerizing, or has already partly or fully, polymerized, and that (b) has at least two groups available for hydrogen bonding, preferably OH groups, that are capable of crosslinking with at least one functional group of the microfibrillated cellulose.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 14, 2018
Date of Patent: November 21, 2023
    Assignee: Borregaard AS
Inventors: Synnøve Holtan, Katérina Liapis, Tom Stylo, Jan Berg
  • Publication number: 20230051816
Abstract: The present invention relates to an adhesive composition comprising, among others, (i) microfibrillated cellulose and (ii) a metal in oxidation state of II or greater. The present invention further relates to uses of such an adhesive composition and to products prepared with such an adhesive composition. Furthermore, the present invention relates to a process for making corrugated paperboards or cardboards, or solid paperboards or cardboards by using such an adhesive composition.

  • Patent number: 11332647
Abstract: The present invention relates to starch-based adhesive compositions comprising microfibrillatedcellulose (“MFC”). In addition to microfibrillated cellulose, these adhesive compositions comprise at least one starch and/or at least one starch derivative.
    Type: Grant

  • Publication number: 20220136175
Abstract: The present invention relates to a high speed process for making corrugated paperboards and cardboards, said paperboards and cardboards comprising chemically treated paper, and said process using a starch-based adhesive that comprises microfibrillated cellulose. The present invention also relates to corrugated paperboards and cardboards comprising said starch-based adhesive composition comprising microfibrillated cellulose and said chemically treated paper.

  • Publication number: 20210261831
Abstract: The present invention relates to starch-based adhesive compositions comprising microfibrillated cellulose (“MFC”). In addition to microfibrillated cellulose, these adhesive compositions comprise at least one starch and/or at least one starch derivative. The adhesive compositions have a reduced amount of caustic soda vis-a-vis adhesive compositions that do not comprise MFC as an additive. Borax or boric acid (or any derivative thereof) may be partially or fully replaced with microfibrillated cellulose, wherein MFC (contrary to borax) surprisingly does not significantly affect the gel temperature of the overall adhesive.
