The polymeric metal sequestrant comprises a polyamine polymer covalently coupled to a chelator, wherein the chelator has a benzene ring with more than one hydroxyl group at any position that is free. The polymeric metal sequestrant is effective in inhibiting and preventing bacterial infections and displays synergistic effects in combination with traditional antibiotics.
