  • Publication number: 20170247745
Abstract: The present disclosure provides systems and methods for the optical detection of a plurality of labeled substrates in an assay. The various aspects of the optical detection systems enable the simultaneous detection of the plurality of labeled substrates. These systems are particularly useful in the detection of nucleic acids during an amplifications reaction.
    Type: Application

Inventors: Kimberly M. SHULTZ, Alan D. BALDWIN, Kate L. BECHTEL, Adam DE LA ZERDA, Jesus CHING, Gregory C. LONEY
  • Patent number: 8545517
Abstract: Tools and methods are provided for dissecting and/or removing biological units, such as hair follicles, from the body surface based on the images both above and below a body surface to reduce potential damage to the removed biological unit. The invention may be used in fully automated systems and also in a hand-held devices and systems. A system may produce a series of three-dimensional images of the body surface indicating follicular unit size, shape, position, and orientation both above and below the skin surface. The images may be utilized by an automated follicular unit harvesting tool, or maybe stored for later use. Imaging techniques include devices that sense light in the visible or infrared spectrums, optical coherence tomography, and ultrahigh frequency ultrasound.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 3, 2009
Date of Patent: October 1, 2013
    Assignee: Restoration Robotics, Inc.
Inventors: Mohan Bodduluri, Joseph A. Heanue, Kate L. Bechtel, Brian P. Wilfley

  • Patent number: 7064836
Abstract: A container to be positioned in a ring-down optical cavity for containing a sample includes an outer surface having opposing first and second outer faces and an inner surface forming a void for containing the sample and having opposing first and second inner faces. The container may include a first portion forming the first outer face having a second index of refraction and a second portion forming the second outer face having a third index of refraction. The container may be placed in an optical cavity including a medium. The first and second outer faces of the outer surface and the first and second inner faces of the inner surface are oriented so that the cavity-to-container interfaces and the container-to-sample interfaces of the container transmit and receive a light beam at an incidence angle approximately equal to the Brewster's angle of the respective interface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 11, 2003
Date of Patent: June 20, 2006
Assignee: The Board of Trustees of the LeLand Stanford Junior University
