Patent number: 11730426Abstract: Aspects of the disclosure relate to medical catheters, including electrophysiological catheters, comprising a catheter maintaining at least one electrode including a plurality of electrode segments. The catheter can include a plurality of slots in which the electrodes can be secured so that the electrodes are at least partially positioned within a center lumen of the catheter. Methods of manufacturing medical catheters are also disclosed. In various methods of assembling a catheter, a hollow, tubular catheter made of a compliant material having a very small, micro or nano outside diameter is provided. Then, the slots are formed in the catheter and the electrode segments are positioned within the slots.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 2019Date of Patent: August 22, 2023Assignees: Heraeus Medical Components LLC, Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Mark A. Hjelle, Katharina Musiol, Christiane Leitold

Patent number: 11701514Abstract: One aspect is a process for producing a segmented electrode, including providing a pipe made of metal having an outer side and an inner side, wherein the inner side of the pipe forms a hollow space. A support structure is arranged in the hollow space, so that the support structure mechanically stabilizes the pipe. Intermediate spaces are formed in the pipe, which define a plurality of segments in the pipe. An electrically insulating material is introduced into the intermediate spaces and thus forming electrically insulating areas, wherein a boundary layer is in each case defined between the segments and the areas. The pipe is cut so that several segmented ring-shaped electrodes are formed therefrom. The support structure is removed from the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: August 4, 2020Date of Patent: July 18, 2023Assignee: Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Markus Jung, Katharina Musiol

Patent number: 11484721Abstract: One aspect is a system for reception or emission of an electrical signal from or into the human or animal body, comprising at least one insulated electrical conductor; a sleeve-shaped electrode that is electrically connected to the electrical conductor and includes an internal side, an external side, and a channel, wherein the channel defines a longitudinal axis along which the conductor is arranged. According to one embodiment, the conductor extends without interruption along the entire area of the electrode, and the electrode further includes a slit that extends from the internal side to the external side of the electrode and in which the conductor is appropriately arranged in the slit such that the electrode forms a direct durable mechanical and electrical connection to the conductor.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 2019Date of Patent: November 1, 2022Assignee: Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KGInventors: Markus Jung, Thorsten Kaiser, Ashkan Hasiri, Katharina Musiol

Publication number: 20220134113Abstract: One aspect relates to a stretchable electrode assembly for a stimulation, modulation or sensing implant comprising an electrical conductor segment comprising at least one electrical conductor which is an electrically insulated wire or cable, and at least one electrode which is adjacent to the electrical conductor segment, wherein the electrical conductor segment is at least partially embedded in a biocompatible substrate and the electrical insulation of the at least one electrical conductor comprises one or more opening(s) suitable for mechanically and electrically connecting the at least one electrode to the at least one electrical conductor of the electrical conductor segment. One aspect also relates to a stimulation, modulation or sensing implant comprising the stretchable electrode assembly as well as a method for preparing such a stretchable electrode assembly.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 29, 2020Publication date: May 5, 2022Applicants: Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, Heraeus Medical Components, LLCInventors: Markus Jung, Katharina Musiol, Oliver Keitel, Steven E. Scott

Patent number: 11161165Abstract: One aspect relates to a method of producing a sleeve for a ring electrode for electrophysiological and neuro-medical applications from a biocompatible metallic tape. Repetitive structures are punched into the tape and each includes at least one surface that is connected by at least one fin to at least one external strip. The at least one external strip connects the repetitive structures to each other on the margin. A sleeve mold is formed from a multiple of the repetitive structures through multiple reforming steps by a reforming technique. The sleeve mold is punched off the such that the sleeve is formed with a first tube-shaped region with a larger diameter and a second tube-shaped region with a smaller diameter. The first region with the larger diameter has a larger external diameter and internal diameter than the second region with the smaller diameter, and the two regions are connected.Type: GrantFiled: November 18, 2016Date of Patent: November 2, 2021Assignee: Heraeus Deutschland GmbH & Co.
