  • Patent number: 10986001
Abstract: A monitoring station deployed in a network monitors packets over one or more interfaces in the network. The monitoring station identifies a flow in a media session. The flow includes at least one request message that includes a request for a segment or chunk of video content and one or more response messages including the requested chunk. The monitoring determines a start of a chunk in the flow and determines an end of the chunk in the flow. Using the start and end times of the chunk and next or subsequent chunks, the monitoring station determines one or more chunk statistics, such as chunk size, chunk duration and chunk download time.

  • Patent number: 10250579
Abstract: A capability is provided for securely transferring a file within network-based storage. A capability is provided for securely transferring a user file of a user from a first server to a second server. The first server may be associated with a first service provider and the second server may be associated with a second service provider. The secure transfer of a user file from the first server to the second server may be performed based on a One-Click File Transfer capability in which only a single click by the user is needed in order for the user file to be transferred. The secure transfer of a user file from the first server to the second server may be performed based on a Zero-Click File Transfer capability in which the user file may be transferred without any interaction by the user.

  • Publication number: 20170168994
Abstract: A manner of facilitating document presentation that may be used to advantage, for example, by a presenter in a meeting room or auditorium setting. A document-presentation system includes a control server that receives a document-presentation indication, for example from a presenter device or another apparatus in a meeting room or associated with a meeting. The control server communicates with the presenter, or user, and determines the document or documents to be presented and a location from which they may be obtained. The control server then sends a presentation notice to a selected render server, which downloads and renders the document. The render server renders the document to a frame buffer in local memory, encodes the pixels read from the frame buffer, and streams the encoded pixels to an adapted display device in a selected location. The render server communicates with the user via the presenter device to start, control, and terminate the presentation.

  • Patent number: 9667683
Abstract: A proxy mixer includes a transceiver configured to receive one or more first requests to provide one or more first media streams to one or more first endpoints. The one or more first media streams are generated by one or more second endpoints. The one or more first requests indicate one or more first quality metrics for the one or more first media streams. The transceiver is also configured to provide one or more second requests for the one or more second endpoints to generate the one or more first media streams at an aggregate quality metric that equals a highest quality metric of the one or more first quality metrics. The transceiver is further configured to transmit the one or more first media streams towards the one or more first endpoints.

  • Publication number: 20160294991
Abstract: Various embodiments provide a method and apparatus providing signaling protocol overload control by enhancing hop-by-hop overload control using cooperation between an “upstream server” or Sending Entity (SE) and the server receiving the signaling request messages and replying with signaling reply messages for a session the “downstream server” or Receiving Entity (RE). In particular, an overload control mechanism for a signaling request transmitted between an SE and the RE allows the RE to receive from the SE a predicted load based on the original un-throttled signaling load information at the SE. The RE may then base decisions such as an overload trigger or a resource scaling decision based on the received un-throttled predicted load at the SE.

  • Patent number: 9148259
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved multicast operation. In one method, a feedback mobile device receives (301), from a multicast sender, a multicast transmission for a plurality of mobile devices, the plurality of mobile devices further including a group of non-feedback mobile devices. The feedback mobile device transmits (302) an indication of feedback mobile channel quality observed by the feedback mobile device to the multicast sender and to the group of non-feedback mobile devices. The feedback mobile device receives (303) from at least one non-feedback mobile device, an indication of non-feedback mobile channel quality at the at least one non-feedback mobile device and transmits (304) an indication of the non-feedback mobile channel quality to the multicast sender and to the group of non-feedback mobile devices.

  • Patent number: 9107236
Abstract: The invention includes a method and apparatus for scheduling multicast transmissions in a wireless network by selecting one of a plurality of multicast groups of a cellular region that is permitted to transmit information during a current timeslot. A method includes receiving data rate request values from wireless user terminals of each of a plurality of multicast groups, assigning a data rate to each multicast group using the data rate request values of wireless user terminals belonging to the respective multicast groups, selecting one of the multicast groups using the assigned data rates, and transmitting information to the selected one of the multicast groups at the associated assigned data rate. In one embodiment, the multicast scheduling algorithm may be a multicast proportional fairness (MPF) scheduling algorithm which attempts to maximize utility value of data received by individual users.

  • Patent number: 9106431
Abstract: The invention includes a method and apparatus for providing media content. The method includes duplicating each packet of an original packet stream for which an associated importance level satisfies an importance condition, inserting each duplicate packet within the original packet stream to form thereby a modified packet stream, and transmitting the modified packet stream toward a wireless terminal adapted for processing the modified packet stream for presenting the media content conveyed by the original packet stream. The duplicate packets may be inserted within respective windows associated with the duplicate packets, wherein each window is determined according to an original packet position associated with the original packet from which the duplicate packet is formed.

  • Patent number: 9030960
Abstract: A capability is provided for reducing or even eliminating redundant traffic in cellular wireless networks. A method is provided for encoding a target packet in a manner for reducing redundancy of information in the target packet. The method includes identifying a region of the target packet that matches a region of a stored packet, removing, from the target packet, the identified region of the target packet from the target packet, and inserting, within the target packet, an encoding key comprising a hash of the stored packet. A method is provided for reconstructing a packet from an encoded packet that is encoded in a manner for reducing redundancy of information in a network. The method includes identifying an encoding key within the encoded packet, wherein the encoding key comprises a hash of a stored packet, retrieving the stored packet using the hash of the stored packet, removing the encoding key from the encoded packet, and inserting information from the stored packet within the encoded packet.

  • Patent number: 9007978
Abstract: Various methods and devices are provided to address the need for improved multicast operation. In one method, a station transmits (401) a multicast packet to a plurality of mobile devices and to a group of monitoring stations (MSs). An indication of whether the multicast packet was received by that MS is received (402) from each monitoring station (MS) of the group of MSs. When this indication indicates that the multicast packet was not received, the multicast packet is retransmitted (403) to the plurality of mobile devices and to the group of MSs.

  • Patent number: 8954515
Abstract: An application proxy is disposed between a user device and an application server. The application server supports an application that is available on the user device. The user device registers with the application proxy for the application. The user device is prevented from transmitting application update request messages to the application server. The application proxy transmits application update request messages to the application server on behalf of the user device. The application proxy receives application update response messages from the application server. The application proxy determines, based on the application update response messages from the application server, whether to send an application update notification message toward the user device. In this manner, application update traffic normally transmitted via the network between the user device and the application proxy is reduced. The application update request and response messages may be polling messages, keep-alive messages, and the like.
