    Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for a diagnostic routine of a variable displacement engine (VDE) of a vehicle to detect non-deactivated valves of deactivated cylinders due to a degraded valve deactivation mechanism. In one example, a method comprises, during operation of the VDE with one or more cylinders of the VDE deactivated, calculating a variation in a fast-sampled signal outputted by one or more exhaust gas oxygen (EGO) sensors of the VDE over a plurality of engine cycles; determining that the variation is greater than the threshold variation; and in response, indicating that valves of the one or more cylinders are not deactivated. A second method comprises estimating a throttle air flow rate and an engine air flow rate of the VDE; and indicating non-deactivated valves of one or more deactivated cylinders if the throttle air flow rate exceeds the engine air flow rate by a threshold.

    Abstract: A dual lumen aspiration catheter system with an aspiration catheter, a hub and a flexible strain relief, and a suction assembly. The aspiration catheter includes multiple successively connected flexible tubular components each increasing in relative flexibility in the distal direction, the most proximal tubular component connectingly extending from the hub and through the flexible strain relief. The tubular components of the aspiration catheter include, in order proximally to distally, a composite tube, an intermediate tube, a dual lumen tube, and a flexible tip tube. The dual lumen tube includes eccentrically co-located large and small tubular portions forming eccentrically co-located large and small lumens to provide a minimum cross section. The distal end of the dual lumen tube includes a convex beveled edge. The convex beveled edge and the flexible tip tube singly or jointly inflict minimal traumatic contact with a vessel wall when urged along a tortuous vascular path.

    Abstract: Provided is a fusion molecule comprising a DNA sequence encoding a thioredoxin-like protein fused to a DNA sequence encoding a second peptide or protein. The peptide or protein may be fused to the amino terminus of the thioredoxin-like molecule, the carboxyl terminus of the thioredoxin-like molecule, or within the thioredoxin-like molecule, for example at the active-site loop of the molecule. The fusion molecule may be modified to introduce one or more metal-binding/chelating amino-acid residues to aid in purification. Expression of this fusion molecule under the control of a regulatory sequence capable of directing its expression in a desired host cell, produces high levels of stable and soluble fusion protein. The fusion protein, located in the bacterial cytoplasm, may be selectively released from the cell by osmotic shock or freeze/thaw procedures. It may be optionally cleaved to liberate the soluble, correctly folded heterologous protein from the thioredoxin-like portion.

    Abstract: A misfire detector for an internal combustion engine obtains a baseline crankshaft acceleration value that degrades at a 50% misfire rate in a predetermined way that is capable of subsequent correction. The width of a median averaging function is selected that provides a cyclical deviant acceleration under all expected conditions of 50% misfire. The cyclical deviant acceleration is corrected by summing adjacent values. The corrected acceleration is compared to a specially adapted misfire threshold that is exceeded only if the deviant acceleration is cyclical.
