  • Patent number: 5055540
Abstract: This invention relates to copolymers containing as copolymerized monomer units aliphatic monoethylenically unsaturated dicarboxylic acids such as maleic acid, monoethylenically unsaturated monocarboxylic acids such as acrylic acid and carboxyl-free monoethylenically unsaturated monomers such as alkyl esters of acrylic acid. This invention particularly relates to the use of low levels of copper ions in an aqueous polymerization process to promote copolymerization of the above-mentioned monomers at high conversion while maintaining and improving molecular weight control. These copolymers are useful primarily as antiscalants, dispersants, hard surface cleaners, detergent builders and incrustation inhibitors.

  • Patent number: 4797223
Abstract: Detergent compositions include water soluble polymers which serve as builders, lime soap dispersants, and antiredeposition agents. The water soluble polymers, which fall into two structural classes, are especially useful in commerical heavy duty liquid detergent compositions, with which they are compatible in effective amounts. The water soluble polymers enhance several detergent properties such as antiredeposition and lime soap dispersants without a concomittant loss in other detergent composition characteristics. Further, the polymers are compatible with enzyme containing liquid detergents. In the first structural class surfactant radicals are distributed along the polymer chain, which also includes pendent carboxyl and/or carboxylate salt radicals. In the second structural class the polymers are terminated by a surfactant radical.

  • Patent number: 4547556
Abstract: A composition comprising a water reducible vinyl additional polymer having pendant unsaturated air drying fatty acid ester groups and additional pendant groups selected from secondary amine, tertiary amine, and combinations thereof are disclosed, as are methods for preparing such polymers, solvent coatings, water reducible coatings, and electrodeposition coatings containing such polymers.

  • Patent number: 4314044
Abstract: A process for preparing a low molecular weight water-soluble polymer comprises reacting, in an aqueous solution system, a water-soluble monomer selected from the class consisting of (a) acrylic acid, methacrylic acid, acrylamide, acrolein, methacrolein, methacrylamide, N-vinyl pyrollidone, acryloxypropionic acid and mixtures thereof, and (b) water-soluble comonomers of one or more of the monomers of (a) with from about 5-50% of the total monomers present, of a comonomer selected from the class consisting of itaconic acid, fumaric acid, maleic acid, hydroxypropylmethacrylate, hydroxyethylacrylate, hydroxypropylacrylate, hydroxyethylmethacrylate, acrylonitrile, methacrylonitrile, dimethylaminoethyl acrylate, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate, t-butylaminoethyl acrylate, 4-vinyl pyridine, beta-hydroxyethyldimethylaminoethyl methacrylate salt, t-butylaminoethyl methacrylate, and mixtures thereof in the presence of a catalyst system which comprises an initiator and a metal salt wherein the molar ratio of the initiat

  • Patent number: 4104030
Abstract: An optical density technique for measuring protein concentration generally, or for measuring minute traces of endotoxin in an unknown material by the clotting of Limulus lysate protein. After the clotting step, the clotted protein is separated and digested in from 0.1 to 0.4N strong alkali such as sodium hydroxide and then photometrically analyzed, for example with the Lowry test. Greatly improved stability of a quantitative endopoint is achieved under this circumstance.
