  • Patent number: 4774077
Abstract: A chemically and physically stable antiplaque dentifrice comprising an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant, a humectant system of glycerin and/or sorbitol and a nonionic gelling agent, prepared by a process which comprises the preparation of two separate gel phases, an oil gel phase and a water gel phase, combining said gel phases into a single gel, and adding a dental abrasive thereto as the final step, or adding said abrasive to the water gel phase prior to the addition of the oil gel phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 1, 1987
Date of Patent: September 27, 1988
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: Robert J. Ferlauto, Jr., Kathleen M. Yuhasz
  • Patent number: 4774078
Abstract: A cosmetically and therapeutically stable antiplaque dentifrice comprising a combination of hexetidine, a soluble zinc salt and a fluoride compound capable of providing a fluoride ion, as the antiplaque agent in dental vehicle containing a polyethylene glycol humectant and a dental abrasive.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 6, 1986
Date of Patent: September 27, 1988
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company

  • Patent number: 4701318
Abstract: A chemically and physically stable antiplaque dentifrice comprising an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant, a humectant system of gylcerin and/or sorbitol and a nonionic gelling agent, prepared by a process which comprises the preparation of two separate gel phases, an oil gel phase and a water gel phase, combining said gel phases into a single gel, and adding a dental abrasive thereto as the final step, or adding said abrasive to the water gel phase prior to the addition of the oil gel phase.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 25, 1986
Date of Patent: October 20, 1987
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: Robert J. Ferlauto, Jr., Kathleen M. Yuhasz

  • Patent number: 4528182
Abstract: A stable antiplaque dentifrice with improved foaming containing an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant to improve foaming without inactivating the antibacterial and antiplaque activity of the quaternary ammonium compound, a humectant selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol, sorbitol and mixtures thereof, and a nonionic gelling agent, preferably hydroxyethylcellulose, in an aqueous vehicle containing a dental abrasive. A fluorine-containing compound such as monofluorophosphate is an optionally preferred ingredient.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 1983
Date of Patent: July 9, 1985
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: John P. Curtis, Richard J. Crawford, Kathleen M. Yuhasz
  • Patent number: 4490353
Abstract: A stable antiplaque dentifrice with improved foaming and improved fluoride stability containing an antiplaque quaternary ammonium compound, a betaine surfactant to improve foaming without inactivating the anti-bacterial and antiplaque activity of the quaternary ammonium compound, a humectant selected from the group consisting of polyethylene glycol, sorbitol, and mixtures thereof, a nonionic gelling agent, preferably hydroxyethylcellulose and a fluorine-containing compound capable of providing a fluoride ion, a small amount of glycerin to improve fluoride stability in polyethylene glycol humectant, in an aqueous vehicle containing a dental abrasive. A small amount of glycerin, as low as 1%, improves the long term fluoride stability of the dentifrice without adversely affecting the cosmetic stability thereof.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 13, 1983
Date of Patent: December 25, 1984
    Assignee: Colgate-Palmolive Company
Inventors: Richard J. Crawford, Kathleen M. Yuhasz, John P. Curtis
