  • Patent number: 4059575
Abstract: There is disclosed a process for the efficient conversion of 17-.alpha.-ethynyl 17-.beta.- hydroxy steroids into the corresponding 17(20) .alpha..beta.-unsaturated 21-steroid aldehydes. The process comprises the sequential steps of reacting the ethynyl alcohol with a diloweralkylformamide dilower-alkylacetal, suitably dimethylformamide diethylacetal, to form the corresponding 16,20 diene-21-diloweralkylamine which is then hydrolyzed to form the corresponding 17(20)-ene-21-steroid aldehyde.
