  • Patent number: 10941329
Abstract: Methods to prepare a well cementing slurry include coating particles comprising an expanding agent with a component selected from the group consisting of a phenolic resin, a silica, a calcination product of a polysiloxane oil, and a combination thereof; and combining the coated particles with mix water and hydraulic cement to form a cement slurry for cementing a well.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 10, 2017
Date of Patent: March 9, 2021
    Assignee: Schlumberger Technology Corporation
Inventors: Nicolas Droger, Mickael Allouche, Katia Dennis, Sylwia Komocki

  • Patent number: 9382159
Abstract: Compositions for well cementing comprise a pumpable slurry of cement, water and at least one additive that swells in contact with an underground fluid (hydrocarbon, water or brines or mixtures thereof). In case of failure of the cement matrix after setting, the additive swells when contacted by the underground fluid and restores zonal isolation. The swelling additive is an elastomer compounded with an aqueous inverse emulsion of particles of a polymer comprising a betaine group.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 11, 2011
Date of Patent: July 5, 2016
    Assignee: SCHLUMBERGER TECHNOLOGY CORPORATION

  • Publication number: 20130105160
Abstract: A self-healing cement for use in wells in which carbon dioxide is injected, stored or extracted, comprises a carbonaceous material. In the event of cement-matrix failure, or bonding failure between the cement/casing interface or the cement/borehole-wall interface, the material swells when contacted by carbon dioxide. The swelling seals voids in the cement matrix, or along the bonding interfaces, thereby restoring zonal isolation.
    Type: Application
    Filed: April 28, 2011
    Publication date: May 2, 2013

  • Publication number: 20130075096
Abstract: The disclosure relates to a composition for well cementing in a subterranean formation comprising a pumpable slurry of cement, water and at least one additive that swells in contact with underground fluid (hydrocarbon, water or brines and mixtures thereof) in case of failure of the cement matrix and to a method of cementing a well using said composition. The swelling additive is an elastomer compounded with an aqueous inverse emulsion of particles of a polymer comprising a betaine group.
