  • Publication number: 20160083623
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for at least partly coating an electrically conductive substrate, comprising at least the steps of (1): at least partly coating the substrate with a dipping varnish comprising at least one binder, by at least partial electrophoretic deposition of the dipping varnish on the substrate surface, and (2): contacting the substrate at least partly coated with the dipping varnish with an aqueous composition, where the aqueous composition used in step (2) is an aqueous sol-gel composition and step (2) takes place before curing of the electrophoretically deposited dipping varnish, to an at least partly coated substrate obtainable by this method, and to the use of an aqueous sol-gel composition for aftertreating a dipping varnish layer applied at least partly to an electrically conductive substrate by an at least partial electrophoretic deposition.

  • Patent number: 8163079
Abstract: Platelet-shaped, copper-containing, metallic effect pigments which have a copper content of 60% to 100% by weight, based on the total metal content, the metal pigments having a thickness distribution as determined via thickness counting by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and represented as cumulative undersize distribution, a) with an h50 of 10 to 50 nm, and b) with an h90 of 20 to 70 nm, the platelet-shaped, copper-containing, metallic effect pigments being produced by milling a copper-containing metal powder with lubricant. The disclosure further relates to a process for producing these pigments, and also to their use, to a printing ink comprising the pigments of the invention, and to a coated article comprising these pigments.

  • Patent number: 8157909
Abstract: A mixture of platelet-shaped, copper-containing metallic effect pigments having a copper content of 60% to 100% by weight, based on the total metal content, with at least one further component, where the copper-containing metallic effect pigments have a thickness distribution, determined via thickness counting by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and represented as cumulative undersize distribution, a) with an h50 of 10 to 100 nm, and b) with an h90 of 20 to 150 nm, and in that the at least one further component is a cellulose derivative selected from the group consisting of alkylcellulose, hydroxyalkylcellulose, alkyl(hydroxyalkyl)cellulose, and mixtures thereof, and/or is at least one additive having antioxidative and/or radical-inhibiting properties. The disclosure further relates to a method for producing this mixture, and to a coating composition.
