    Abstract: An electrolyte for an electrolytic capacitor which comprises using as a main solute(s) at least one of a long chain dibasic acid having 12 to 22 carbon atoms and containing an alkyl group at the side chain thereof or a salt thereof and dissolving said solute(s) in a solvent mainly composed of ethylene glycol, and adding and dissolving at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a polycarboxylic acid, an inorganic acid consisting of phosphoric acid and sulfuric acid, 8-oxyquinoline and ethylenediamine tetraacetic acid (or a salt thereof) to and in the resulting solution.
