  • Patent number: 7142393
Abstract: An MR head includes a slider, and a film structure part which is located on an air outflow side of the slider and includes an MR element for reproducing. The film structure part has an end surface located on an identical side as a floating surface of the slider. The end surface of the film structure part and the floating surface of the slider form a step-like recess which has a depth making it possible to prevent a fine projection on a magnetic disk from hitting the end surface of the film structure part.

Date of Patent: November 28, 2006
    Assignee: Fujitsu Limited

  • Patent number: 5959805
Abstract: An air-bearing head slider for supporting an electromagnetic transducer opposite to a rotating recording media or magnetic disk. A slider body has a surface having a leading or air-entry side and a trailing or air-delivery side. Two rails are provided on the surface of the slider body and has floating surfaces opposite to the rotating magnetic disk for generating a floating force. The two side rails extend along a direction of air flow generated by the rotation of the magnetic disk and define a relatively shallow groove between these two rails. The groove has a width-enlarged portion at which the width of the groove is enlarged, so that a negative pressure is generated in such a manner that the slider body is attracted to the rotating magnetic disk. Inclined surfaces are formed on the air-entry sides of the floating surfaces of the rails. An inclination angle of the inclined surface is not more than 3.degree. and not less than 0.5.degree. and a length of the inclined surface is not less than 50 .mu.

  • Patent number: 5914168
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium able to cope with low flying height of the magnetic head in a CSS system and having fine surface roughness, wherein (1) a metal layer having columnar protrusions formed by the filming of Ti or the like or (2) a resin layer or glass resin layer having irregularly distributed through-holes are provided on the substrate of a magnetic recording medium to impart roughness (texture).

  • Patent number: 5835307
Abstract: A magnetic disk unit having a head suspension mechanism which can reduce the flying height of a slider and can stably fly the slider. The head suspension mechanism includes a spring arm having one end portion for supporting the slider so that when a magnetic disk is at rest, the slider is kept in contact with the magnetic disk, while when the magnetic disk is rotated, the slider is moved to fly from the magnetic disk by dynamic pressure due to air flow caused by rotation of the magnetic disk. The spring arm has a bent portion formed so that a transducer mounted on the slider approaches the magnetic disk.

  • Patent number: 5786964
Abstract: A magnetic disk drive unit includes a slider having a transducer mounted on one end thereof, and a spring arm for biasing the slider toward a magnetic disk. A flexure is integrally formed on a distal end portion of the spring arm, and the slider is attached to a slider placing-section of the flexure. A slit extending in a direction generally at a right angle to a longitudinal direction of the slider is formed in the slider placing-section, so that a shrinking force of an adhesive agent is cut off by this slit, thereby preventing deformation of the slider caused by the shrinking force of the adhesive agent. A flexible printed-wiring board is attached to a back surface of the spring arm, and terminals of the transducer are connected to a printed-wiring board of the magnetic disk drive unit through this flexible printed-wiring board.

  • Patent number: 5694270
Abstract: A head assembly which can suppress an increase in electric resistance of plural conductor patterns even when a flexure for mounting a head slider becomes small. The head assembly includes a suspension, a flexure formed integrally with the suspension at a front end portion thereof, and a head slider mounted on the flexure and having a transducer. The head assembly further includes a first conductor pattern formed on the suspension and the flexure and having one end connected to the transducer, and a second conductor pattern laminated on the first conductor pattern with an insulator layer interposed therebetween, and having one end connected to the transducer.

  • Patent number: 5634259
Abstract: A thin-film element is formed at an end of a core slider, at which end air exits, and a protective film is formed on the thin-film element. A step-like recess is formed in the protective film near the thin-film element so as to extend longitudinally toward an end at which air exits.
