  • Publication number: 20070163199
Abstract: The invention is a log-made member for a large-scale truss structure. A truss structural member 1 comprises a log 2 cut so as to form flat surfaces on butt ends 2A thereof. A connector 4 slidably holds a shank 6m of a fastening bolt 6 and holds the periphery of the butt ends. Large lag screws 5 fix the connector 4 to the butt end 2A of the log. The connector 4 is disposed between the joint device 3 and the log 2, and is composed of a first element 4A and a second element 4B which engage with the portion of a counter-node side of the first element 4A. The first element 4A is provided with an axial symmetrical shell accommodating an elastic element 10 for biasing the fastening bolt 6. The second element is 4B is fixed to the log 2 by plural lag screws 5 so as to hold the butt end by using an annular thorn 4c so that the portion of the counter-node side thereof contacts the butt end 2A without any clearance.

  • Publication number: 20040250484
Abstract: A portal frame 3 made of wide flange sections without braces is fixed to the external surfaces of an existing RC-column 5 extending in the vertical direction and to the external surfaces of existing RC-beam 8 extending in the horizontal direction of a reinforced concrete building. The wide flange section column 4 fixed to the existing RC-column 5 is assigned a bending rigidity roughly equivalent to that of the existing RC-column 5, thereby reducing the stress additionally occurring at the connecting part between the existing RC-column 5 and column 4 by deforming the column 4 similarly to the existing RC-column 5 under the horizontal load transmitted from existing RC-beam 8 and/or wide flange section beam 6 during an earthquake. Using a steel portal frame without braces preserves the building appearance and avoids bracing which may block windows while increasing earthquake resistance.

  • Patent number: 5632129
Abstract: A joint device enables to join a brace member, into which regulated pretension is exactly introduced, to unmovable connector nodes, comprising a steel rod 1 having a swelled portion 1A and a threaded connector portion 1B formed on the end thereof, respectively, one sleeve 3 providing an external threaded part 3A joined to one node 2M, which contacts a swelled portion 1A: and another sleeve 4 providing an external threaded part 4A joined to node 2N, which engages threaded connector portion 1B. The length from a node-contact face 3c of sleeve 3 to a node-contact face 4c of sleeve 4 is selected equal to difference of length between both nodes 2, 2 from length for generating a preferable elongation enough to introduce regulated pretension into steel rod 1.

  • Patent number: 5498094
Abstract: A double steel pipe structural member comprises an external pipe and an internal pipe. The external pipe is provided with a thin steel pipe part and thick steel pipe parts formed at each of the ends of the thin part. The thickness of the thick part is 1.5 to 1.7 times the thickness of the thin part. The internal pipe is disposed so as to overlap not only with the thin part but with the thick part of the external pipe. The internal pipe behaves as a bending resistant pipe against the external pipe so that the external pipe may deform plastically in the longitudinal direction thereof after an axial compressive force exceeds the yield strength of the external pipe. The deformation is axially symmetrical along the outer surface of the internal pipe. A truss structure including the double steel pipe, is prevented from immediately collapsing when a building having the truss structure encounters a big earthquake or the like.

  • Patent number: 5498093
Abstract: A joint device has a fastening bolt provided with a first external threaded part to engage a screw hole of a node, a polygonal boss slidably engaged with a sleeve, a third external threaded part and a second reversely threaded part engaged with an anchor nut in a steel pipe. The third part engages with an internal threaded part on the inner face of a bore in an end cap welded on the end of the steel pipe so that the first part can be advanced to the node or retracted into the sleeve. The sleeve has a stopper on the corners of the polygonal hole thereof so that it is prevented from coming off the fastening bolt. The device enables a connection of a steel pipe and a node even where the pipe is inclined or perpendicular to the ground.

  • Patent number: 5141351
Abstract: A device for joining an elongate structural member having a hollow end to a connector node includes a cover for the hollow end and an elongate bolt extending a threaded end therethrough for engaging with the node. A portion of the bolt between the threaded distal end and a bolt head at the opposite end has the form of a square cross-sectioned boss which has an external thread cut into corner portions thereof such that the square boss can be threaded through an internally threaded aperture in the cover, this internally threaded aperture being smaller than the bolt head. A sleeve having a length longer than the square boss has a square through-aperture sized to slidingly fit around the square boss.

  • Patent number: 4887404
Abstract: A translucent glass brick for use in a building wall as a lighting wall is made of a translucent opal glass in a form of a hollow glass block. The opal glass has an opal appearance and a mean light transmittance of 20-80%, in a glass thickness of 10 mm, for wavelength over a range of 400-700 nm. The opal glass is a lime and chlorine free glass with sodium sulfate and sodium sulfide fine particles dispersed therein for diffusing light transmitting through the glass. The opal glass essentially consists, by weight, of SiO.sub.2 60.0-70.0%, Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 7.0-11.0%, B.sub.2 O.sub.3 1.0-5.0%, BaO 0-3.0%, ZnO 1.0-5.0%, Na.sub.2 O 15.0-21.0%, SO.sub.3 0.3-1.0%, and F.sub.2 0-2.0%.

  • Patent number: 4872779
Abstract: A device for joining elongate structure members to connector nodes includes a bolt having oppositely threaded ends for threaded engagement with a nut at one end and a connector node at the other end. Between its threaded ends the bolt has a cylindrical portion and a torque transmitting portion. An externally threaded bolt-support member engageable with internal threads at the end of the structure member slidingly receives the cylindrical portion of the bolt while a sleeve with an internal aperture non-rotatably but slidingly receives the torque-transmitting portion of the bolt. In use, the nut prevents the bolt from pulling out of the bolt-support member while external torque applied to the sleeve tightens the structure member to the connector node. An elastic sealing member around the bolt is squeezed between the connector node and the torque-transmitting portion of the bolt and this may be supplemented by sealing material applied at the interface between the sleeve and the structure member end.
