  • Patent number: 7653738
Abstract: An interconnection network is provided with switch devices for computers for a plurality of computers, respectively, a predetermined number of physical lines for switch devices for computers are bound to form each of logical lines, the physical lines forming the logical lines interconnect the other switch devices for computer via a plurality of switch devices for relay to form a parallel computer system. When a data transmission speed required between the computers is judged to be lower than a line transmission speed determined by the number of physical lines of any switch device for relay, switch setting-off unit turns off power of the whole switch device for relay that has been judged to shut off the switch device for relay from the interconnection network.

  • Patent number: 7602799
Abstract: A network management apparatus interconnects a plurality of computers through physical lines having a predetermined line speed to manage a switch apparatus constructing a parallel computer system. The switch apparatus comprises a plurality of physical port units to enable or disable the same through individual power supply ON/OFF control for the physical port units, thereby changing and controlling the line transmission speed according to the enable number. A logical port constructing unit in the network management apparatus bundles the physical lines by a plurality of physical port units in the switch apparatus to construct logical lines. A port control unit changes the number of operations of a plurality of physical port units assigned to the logical port units through the power supply ON/OFF control according to a necessary data transmission speed for the logical port units, thereby dynamically changing the line transmission speed.

  • Patent number: 7388620
Abstract: Pan-scan is provided for a standard 4:3 aspect ratio TV displaying a 16:9 aspect ratio high definition (HD) video stream using the motion vectors that are part of MPEG-encoded streams. Specifically, if, for instance, the MPEG motion vectors indicate an object rapidly moving to the left, the left-most part of the HD video frames are shown, instead of remaining centered on the HD video frames and cutting off the left and right portions.

  • Patent number: 7171515
Abstract: A storage unit which purges unnecessary data immediately and transfers data with high probability of future hits from a disk medium to a segment buffer in advance. A section calculates feature values of data to be stored in a new generated segment and relationships between preceding and succeeding commands. Next, a section retains the feature values for a predetermined period after segment data is purged from a segment buffer and stores the feature values of the purged segment as feature values of a segment with a high hit probability after the purge, when an address stored by the purged segment is read again. Then, a section does not purge a segment when the segment has feature values similar to those of the segment having a high hit probability, while purging another segment or other plural segments with a different feature value.

  • Publication number: 20050283653
Abstract: The present invention aims at offering a magnetic disk device for configuring RAID in a single disk device. The device can configure RAID using one disk and furthermore only one surface (referred to as a single-surface RAID method) neither requiring a plurality of actuators nor performing a data writing processing, etc. more than once. For that purpose, a plurality of data access heads is provided for each arm and the heads are positioned so as to access different tracks on a same surface on a disk.

  • Patent number: 6912642
Abstract: A storage service system includes a storage service user (SSU) which uses a data accumulation service, and a storage service provider (SSP) which provides a user terminal with a data accumulation area. The SSU monitors a free capacity of its own data accumulation unit such that the free capacity cannot be smaller than a predetermined value, and automatically transfers stored data to the SSP through a network when the free capacity becomes close to the predetermined value. Thus, the SSU can reserve a constant free capacity.
