  • Patent number: 4210939
Abstract: A method and system are provided for synchronizing the movement of a first recording medium by a first transport mechanism including a capstan with the movement of a second recording medium by a second transport mechanism also including a capstan, each of the first and second recording media having addressable recording frames identified by frame signals and addresses recorded thereon. The first and second recording media are rewound from respective predetermined addressable frames identified as T.sub.AO and T.sub.BO, respectively. The first recording medium is advanced from its rewound position toward frame T.sub.AO at a fixed speed, e.g., a normal tape advance speed, in a capstan servo-locked condition, and the second recording medium is advanced from its rewound position toward frame T.sub.BO at a selective speed greater than, equal to or less than the fixed speed. Addresses T.sub.A and T.sub.B of the first and second recording media, respectively, are played back as the recording media are advanced.

  • Patent number: 4175267
Abstract: Method and apparatus for inserting an address signal in a video signal by compressing the SMPTE (Society of Motion Picture And Television Engineers) time code signal and then inserting the compressed time code signal into three successive vertical blanking periods of the video signal. The invention allows the time code signals to be reconstructed where the record medium is stopped or transported at very low speeds.

  • Patent number: 4167759
Abstract: An editing system having a circuit for inserting an address signal in a vertical blanking period of a video signal, a generator for the SMPTE time code, a reader for reading the address signal in a vertical blanking period of a video signal, a reader for reading the SMPTE time code, and a preset circuit for presetting the SMPTE time code generator according to an output of the SMPTE time code reader.

  • Patent number: 4159480
Abstract: Method and apparatus for inserting an address signal in a video signal by compressing the time code signal including synchronizing bits inserted at every predetermined bit and cyclic redundancy check code and then inserting the compressed time code signal into at least one horizontal line period within a vertical blanking period of the video signal. The invention allows the time code signals to be reconstructed where the record medium is stopped or transported at very low speeds.

  • Patent number: 4139872
Abstract: In an apparatus in which video signals recorded in successive parallel tracks extending obliquely across a magnetic tape are reproduced by means of at least one rotary magnetic head which scans the tracks in succession at a rate dependent on the speed at which the tape is moved longitudinally by a tape transport assembly; a track searching arrangement is provided that includes a selector actuable for selecting a track searching mode of the apparatus, a manually rotatable wheel or dial, and a control circuit for initially establishing transport of the tape in the forward direction at a normal speed upon actuation of the selector, and for thereafter varying the speed and direction of transport of the tape from the initial speed and direction in accordance with the direction and angular extent of any rotation of the wheel from the position of the latter at the time of selection of the track searching mode.

  • Patent number: 4139870
Abstract: In a video tape recorder having a tape on which are recorded "0" and "1" binary coded bits of a pulse width modulated signal as for identifying frames of a video signal also recorded on the tape, the tape being advanced past a head detecting the pulse width modulated signal at speeds variable with the fast forward, normal and slow motion mode of operation of the recorder so as to change the bit frequency of the pulse width modulated signal in correspondence with the speed of the tape, a circuit which demodulates the "0" and "1" bits of the detected pulse width modulated signal by comparing the coded pulse width of each succeeding bit (B.sub.i +1) with the width of the preceeding bit (B.sub.i) to make the demodulation substantially independent of the bit frequency and the corresponding speed of the tape so that the circuit operates in each mode of recorder operation. In the preferred embodiment of the circuit, each bit is quantized into periodic pulses which correspond in number to the width of the bit.

  • Patent number: 3956767
Abstract: A signal recording and/or reproducing apparatus having a plurality of signal recording means for successively recording an input signal on a recording medium and/or a plurality of signal reproducing means for successively reproducing a recorded signal from the recording medium, and a plurality of signal recording and/or reproducing circuits adapted to correspond to the respective signal recording and/or reproducing means; is further provided with one or more phase shifters for phase-shifting by 120.degree. relative to each other the signals which are successively recorded or reproduced so as to avoid any increase in level in the reproduced signals during overlap periods when the signal recording or reproducing means are simultaneously operative.
