  • Publication number: 20080007871
Abstract: The head slider has a plurality of heaters each heating a corresponding region of the ABS, and a sensor detecting collision of the ABS with a projection on a surface of the magnetic disk. Currents supplied to the respective heaters are controlled and produce heats independently of one another. The heats produce projections on the corresponding regions of the ABS, respectively. The ABS with asperity can be planarized through appropriately controlling magnitude of the currents supplied to the heaters. Thus, the variation of a sensor output depending on asperity of the ABS is effectively reduced. Another head slider has a heater locally heating a corresponding region of the ABS. The heater has a structure where a central portion is away from the ABS compared with end portions, or a structure where calorific power of a central portion is smaller than that of each of end portions. Thus, overall projection shape becomes flat.

  • Patent number: 7035054
Abstract: A load beam is provided with a base plate and a slider. A magnetic head apparatus is fixed to a head arm via a base plate. In a mechanism or structure for supporting such a magnetic head supporting mechanism, an elastically deformable portion is provided between the base plate and the load beam. Thus, a floating structure that allows the load beam to swing is formed about the elastically deformable portion. In addition, a weight of the load beam is balanced with respect to the elastically deformable portion. Furthermore, a contact portion for applying pressure to the load beam is provided on the head arm so that a pressing load to a recording medium would be set by an amount of rotation of the load beam caused by the pressure applied by the contact portion.

  • Patent number: 6040520
Abstract: In a solar cell including a photoelectric conversion layer 14 disposed on a flexible substrate 11 and constituted by a laminated layer of non-single crystalline silicon thin films, the flexible substrate 11 has a coefficient of linear thermal expansion of is 2.0 ppm to 10.0 ppm. By this, the coefficient of linear thermal expansion of the flexible substrate 11 and that of the photoelectric conversion layer 14 become close to each other, so that warp and deformation during manufacturing steps and after the steps are decreased. Further, since stress applied to the photoelectric conversion layer 14 is also lessened, the photoelectric conversion efficiency can be increased.
