  • Patent number: 7471356
Abstract: The present invention provides a reflector having a light-diffusing property which suppresses inter-object reflection over a wide angle, and giving particularly high reflectance in an intended range of viewing angle; and to provide a reflection type liquid crystal display device using the same. The reflector includes a plurality of light-reflective concave portions. Each of the concave portions is formed so that an inclination angle (an angle between a plane tangential to a point on a concave surface and the surface of the base material) is maximum on a side portion of the curved surface, and so that the direction of the side portion having the maximum inclination angle is on a far side from a view point of an observer.

  • Patent number: 7388634
Abstract: A reflector and a liquid crystal display device in which original reflection characteristics can be sufficiently accomplished and moiré patterns can be prevented are provided. A reflector 30 formed with a plurality of concave portions 28b1, 28b2 on one surface of a base member along one arrangement direction is employed. When defining the section passing through the deepest point of the concave portion as a first section and defining the section perpendicular to the first section at the deepest point as a second section, the concave portions 28b1, 28b2 have symmetrical shapes on the basis of the first section and have asymmetrical shapes on the basis of the second section. When defining the directions along the first section in the concave portions 28b1, 28b2 as axis directions L1, L2, each of the axis directions L1, L2 are not parallel with the arrangement direction, and the axis directions L1, L2 are set to two or more directions.

  • Patent number: 7312842
Abstract: In a concave portion of a reflector of a liquid crystal display, a shape of an opening surface is approximately elliptical. A straight line parallel to a first section line passing through a deepest point of the concave portion along a long axis of the elliptical shape is formed in a portion of the elliptical shape. The concave portion has an asymmetrical shape with respect to the first section which becomes wide from the first section line passing through the deepest point toward a depth direction and has a symmetrical shape with respect to the second section which becomes wide from the second section line perpendicular to the first section line toward the depth direction. • Patent number: 7245339
Abstract: An opening formed on a transflective film is close to the edge of a rectangular pixel region. An interval t2 between three sides of the four sides of the opening and the edge of the pixel region is smaller than the width of one concave portion formed on the transflective film thereby permitting the concave portions that contribute the least to reflection to be minimized, and the reflectance of the transflective film to be maximized. The desired reflection characteristic can be obtained using a predetermined number of concave portions.

  • Patent number: 6947107
Abstract: A reflector for a liquid crystal display includes a substrate with light-reflective concave portions on the surface thereof. Each concave portion has a specific vertical section which passes through a deepest point of the concave portion. The internal shape of the specific vertical section is defined by a first curve, which extends from one point on the peripheral edge of the concave portion to the deepest point of the concave portion, and a second curve, which extends continuously from the first curve and from the deepest point of the concave portion to another point on the peripheral edge of the concave portion. The average of the absolute value of an inclination angle of the first curve relative to the substrate surface is larger than the average of the absolute value of an inclination angle of the second curve relative to the substrate surface.

  • Publication number: 20050157228
Abstract: A reflector includes a large number of hollow portions with arbitrary sizes randomly fabricated in an area with a predetermined unit length on one side to form a reflector piece. Reflector pieces are repeatedly fabricated to form a large reflective surface. The predetermined unit length is set from 30 to 3,000 ?m. With this setting, Moire fringing can be efficiently avoided when the reflector is used as a reflector of, for example, a liquid-crystal display.

  • Publication number: 20050073634
Abstract: There is provided a color liquid crystal display device capable of being viewed in clear and natural states of colors with respect to the color sensitivity of the human eye. A transflective film 12 is formed such that an R aperture 32r corresponding to an R color filter has the largest size, a G aperture 32g corresponding to a G color filter has the smallest size, and a B aperture 32b corresponding to a B color filter has an intermediate size. That is, the aperture ratios of apertures 32 formed on the transflective film 12 decrease in the order of the R aperture 32r> the B aperture 32b> the G aperture 32g. Since the size of the aperture 32 is varied in accordance with the color of the corresponding color filter, it is possible to control brightness in natural states of colors with respect to the characteristics of color sensitivity intrinsic to the human eye.

  • Publication number: 20050012880
Abstract: When the thickness of a filter layer 170 in a light-reflecting portion R (the thickness of a thin portion 170a) is ‘FR’, the thickness of the filter layer 170 in a light-transmitting portion T (the thickness of a thick portion 170b) is ‘FT’, the thickness of a liquid crystal layer 150 in the light-reflecting portion R is ‘LR’, the thickness of the liquid crystal layer 150 in the light-transmitting portion T is ‘LT’, and the depth of a groove 155 is ‘D’, the depth D of the groove 155 formed in a resin layer 160 is formed to satisfy the formula D=(LT?LR)+(FT?FR). With defining (LT?LR) as ‘L’ and (FT?FR) as ‘F’, the formula becomes D=L+F. If the depth of the groove 155 satisfies the formula, it is possible to make an optical path length of external light N equal to an optical path length of illumination light B from a backlight 200 when they pass through the liquid crystal panel.
