  • Patent number: 7578519
Abstract: In the knee protection air bag apparatus, the air bag cover is assembled to a case which stores therein an air bag and an inflator and also includes an opening formed in the vehicle backward direction portion thereof such that the air bag cover is movable with respect to the case in the vehicle back-and-forth direction, in the vehicle vertical direction and in the vehicle right and left direction and, at the same time, the air bag cover is mounted on its adjoining vehicle interior part (a lower panel). A projecting streak provided on the air bag cover regulates the movement of the air bag cover in the vehicle backward direction with respect to the case, whereby the expanding and developing power of the air bag can be properly transmitted to a breaking portion formed in the lid portion of the air bag cover.

  • Publication number: 20090085333
Abstract: An airbag for knee protection internally includes a first tether that connects a knee-side wall and a vehicle body side wall by a connecting distance of 50 to 90 mm and partitions the airbag into an upper inflatable chamber and a lower inflatable chamber. The mainstreams of inflation gas heading to the upper inflatable chamber from the lower are located proximate left and right ends of the airbag. The upper inflatable chamber has an outer diameter of 150 to 220 mm at full airbag inflation. The lower inflatable chamber includes on the vehicle body side wall a mounting portion by which the airbag is secured to the case and is designed such that a top of its rear face is dislocated forward relative to that of the upper inflatable chamber by 10 to 70 mm at full inflation of the airbag.

  • Patent number: 5791682
Abstract: An air bag device comprises at the center a bag provided with a gas flowing orifice, a pad for receiving the bag in its folded state, an inflator arranged so as to permit gas to be jetted toward the gas flowing orifice of the bag and an inflator insertion hole into which a holding cylinder below the inflator can be inserted and further provided with a retainer for holding the inflator and the bag in their inner periphery and the pad in its outer periphery. The air bag device further includes a holding cloth surrounding the lower holding cylinder of the inflator and formed continuously below the gas flowing orifice of the bag, and a coupling is formed between the peripheral surface of the inflator and peripheral edge of the inflator insertion hole of the retainer.

  • Patent number: 5499842
Abstract: A pad or cover for an air bag assembly formed of a thermoplastic elastomer and having an outer wall that includes a substantially H-shaped thin-walled breaking seam designed to break when the air bag is actuated. The breaking seam is H-shaped, as viewed in a vertical direction, and the cover includes an ordinary portion outside of the breaking seam. A horizontal seam portion of the substantially H-shaped portion has straight line portions respectively connected to two vertical seam portions lying on both left and right sides of the substantially H-shaped configuration and a curved U-shaped portion that is interposed between the straight line portions. The thickness of the ordinary portion at the outer peripheral side of the U-shaped portion is thicker than the thickness of the ordinary portions in the vicinities of intersections between the vertical seam portions and the straight line portions.
