In the image forming apparatus, when a first short-range communication device receives second identification information after a first control device allows formation of an image on a recording paper sheet and storage of first identification information, the first control device determines correspondence or non-correspondence between the first and second identification information. In a power-saving sleep mode of the image forming apparatus, the first control device maintains the sleep mode in the case of the correspondence or cancels the sleep mode in the case of the non-correspondence.

Abstract: A management system of image forming apparatuses according to the present invention includes a device for transmitting information about maintenance for each of a plurality of image forming apparatuses such as copying machines, and transmitting for example, the number of copies from the image forming apparatus to a centralized management apparatus. It further includes a device for determining, on the basis of maintenance information transmitted from the image forming apparatus to the centralized management apparatus, efficient performance of maintenance work, for example, the scheduled date of maintenance work for the image forming apparatus. The above described information about maintenance is related to the operation of the peripheral device.

Abstract: The present invention provides a copy service accounting device for simplifying a copy service process both for store clerks and customers. When a determined card-like sheet is inserted through a slit of the copy service accounting device connected to a copying machine, the copy service accounting device outputs a copy enabling signal to the copying machine. Data on a number of copies for each copy size is sent from the copying machine to the copy service accounting device, which counts up and stores the number. When copying is finished and a completion switch is pushed, the copy service accounting device calculates a total charge on the basis of the stored number and a unit charge on each copy size. The calculated total charge is printed in bar code form on the card-like sheet, which is then ejected through the slit. When the bar code is read by a bar code reader at a cash register, the charge is immediately registered in the cash register. Thus the copy service process becomes significantly simplified.

Abstract: An image forming apparatus and an IC card are provided with a function of transmitting a signal with no contact with each other in a signal receivable range in order to prevent copying aggregation from being omitted due to forgetting to insert the IC card and to prevent the IC card from being left attached after a copying operation is completed. The image forming apparatus is brought into a condition where an image forming operation can be performed by receiving a signal from the IC card which is brought into the signal receivable range.

Abstract: A sheet transport device is provided which has a sheet tray removably attachable to the body of an apparatus pivotally movably to an upright position or an unfolded position. The sheet tray has pivots projecting from the respective opposite sides of base end of the tray and each having a first width when the tray is in the upright position and a second width larger than the first width when the tray is in the unfolded position. The apparatus body has cutouts for the respective pivots, each having an inlet portion with a width larger than the first width and smaller than the second width and a support portion with a diameter not smaller than the second width. An elastic member is disposed close to at least one of the cutouts for restraining the pivot as positioned in the support portion from rotating from the unfolded position to the upright position by contacting the pivot.
