  • Patent number: 5617391
Abstract: An optical recording and reproducing system has an optical recording and reproducing head driving arrangement including an optical pick-up and has an optical recording medium provided between the recording heads. The optical recording and reproducing head is mounted on a rotating arrangement. The head scans tracks while a relative position of the recording medium and rotating arrangement is changed. Each track has an address recorded at the beginning of scanning and a hold signal at the end of scanning. The recording and reproducing heads are separated one track. The recording head makes recording while the reproducing head makes reproduction. In the recording or reproducing mode of operation, the track address is looked. If wrong, it is corrected. The hold signal is detected to operate a tracking device and focusing device. Scanning the next track is determined by the address before tracking is made for recording or reproduction.

  • Patent number: 5539710
Abstract: A video optical disk system which can record/reproduce information in the same recording format as that of a read only type optical disk such as an LD, and is therefore compatible with both the read only type optical disk and a writable optical disk. A writable optical disk exhibiting a C/N ratio of at least 60 [dB] is employed, and has information recorded thereon with the same address signals as those of the LD and in the NTSC direct FM recording format. An optical head and an image processing circuit which are included in a player unit are made common to the recorded disk and the LD, and characteristics of a focusing/tracking control circuit, an RF signal preamplifier circuit and a tilt control circuit which are included in the player unit are changed over on the basis of reflectances of both types of optical disks, thereby enabling both the recorded disk and the LD to be reproduced.

  • Patent number: 4980788
Abstract: A thin-film-type magnetic head device for magnetically recording and/or reproducing signals in and from a magnetic recording medium has a lower magnetic layer, an insulating layer, a thin-film-type coil and an upper magnetic layer which are formed sequentially on a substrate such that a magnetic circuit is formed by the upper and lower magnetic layers. The upper and lower magnetic layers partially abut each other to provide a magnetic coupling therebetween. At least one slit formed in the region where the upper and lower magnetic layers abut each other, so as to suppress generation of eddy currents in the magnetic layers in the region.

  • Patent number: 4799118
Abstract: In a thin film magnetic head consisting of a non-magnetic substrate, and a multilayer structure superposed thereon and including a lower core, a gap material layer, a thin film coil and an upper core, etc., the head sliding surface of the lower core and that of the upper core are so formed that they become wider with increasing distance from the surface of the gap material layer.

  • Patent number: 4752850
Abstract: Multi-track magnetic thin film heads for recording and reproducing an analog signal of an electronic still camera. The heads are constructed on a single non-magnetic substrate. Each of lower magnetic cores for the heads is separately formed in the surface of the non-magnetic substrate, in order to reduce cross talk from adjacent tracks. Further, in order to decrease a resistance of a coil thereof, a distance of back head gap parts of adjacent heads is formed larger than a distance of front head gap parts of the adjacent heads. As the non-magnetic substrate, a ceramic material comprising at least MnO and NiO are used, as a magnetic core material, an amorphous material including Co, Nb and Zr is used, and as a magnetic gap material, Cr or Zr is used.

  • Patent number: 4642708
Abstract: The rotary head type helical scanning magnetic tape recording and reproducing apparatus is provided with an auxiliary recording head for recording pilot signals adjacent to a main head for recording a signal to be recorded, and an auxiliary reproducing head for reproducing the recorded pilot signals. The pilot signals recorded to an antecedent track are reproduced by the auxiliary reproducing head at the time of recording to the next track. A tracking control of the main head at the time of next track recording is effected according to the reproduced pilot signals.

  • Patent number: 4476509
Abstract: A thin film magnetic head is composed of a first thin film of a magnetic material deposited on a non-magnetic substrate. A V-like groove is formed in the first magnetic thin film with a depth reaching the non-magnetic substrate. One wall face of the V-like groove is deposited with a non-magnetic thin film, and the V-like groove is filled with a second magnetic thin film. A magnetic gap provided by the non-magnetic thin film is used as the magnetic head gap.

  • Patent number: 4110902
Abstract: A head chip having a track width of a gap smaller than a thickness of a core enables a high density recording of a video signal. The track width of the gap is machined before a bulk is sliced into individual head chips to save manufacturing time and enhance yield. An efficient machining of the track width is achieved using a plurality of hard metal wires such as piano wires spanned on rollers each having a plurality of precisely spaced grooves thereon and reciprocating the metal wires while dropping grinding liquid thereon. In this manner, the occurrence of chipping of core material is minimized or the size of chipping, if any, is minimized.
