    Abstract: Provided is the so-called agent imparting the distinctness of image, namely, an additive for an aqueous coating material that can improve the distinctness of image of the coating film of any glossy aqueous coating material in order to prevent the white blurring phenomenon, which is caused by diffuse reflection of light, to a degree that could not be previously achieved, by increasing the dispersivity of a carbon black or an organic pigment in a coating material resin. Catecholic polymer black microparticles that exhibit an angle-independent structural color are used as the agent imparting the distinctness of image.
