  • Patent number: 5481335
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a device for setting the apparatus in a check mode to check a state of the apparatus and for selectively executing one of a plurality of check operations. In one aspect, each check operation is set using a commonly provided numeral key, and the check mode is unconditionally released using a clear key. In another aspect, one of the check modes includes a test movement of a movable member used in image formation. In still other aspects, sheet transporting operations are controlled based on the location of a sheet jam, or based on the selection of a sheet sorter. The state of each of the image formation devices is checked even if an improper state has already been detected, plural error states are repeatedly displayed in a specific order, and a display unit is commonly used.

  • Patent number: 4952988
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image forming mechanism, an input device for setting image formation data necessary to command desired image formation, first and second displays for displaying the data input through the input device and for indicating that the apparatus is ready to form images, respectively, a starter for commanding image formation to commence, a timer, and a controller. The timer controls the first display to return the image formation data to predetermined values if the starter has not been actuated during a predetermined time interval. The controller controls the image forming mechanism to form an image according to the displayed data if the starter is actuated after the ready indication, controls the input device to allow the input of data even before the ready indication in which case the timer begins to time after the ready indication, and controls the timer to reset if new image formation data is input during the predetermined time.

  • Patent number: 4845528
Abstract: A double-sided image forming apparatus having first and second input devices respectively for entering function data for desired image formation functions and for entering the number of copies to be formed. A memory is provided to store the function data, and a storage compartment is provided to store sheets during duplex copying. An image forming device is arranged to operate in two procedures: a first procedure in which image formation is effected on the sheet's first side in accordance with first function data, and a second procedure in which image formation is effected on the other side in accordance with a second, different, function data. A controller controls the image forming device so that entry of number data and function data is permitted before the first procedure begins, but so that entry of only function data and not number data is permitted after completion of the first procedure.

  • Patent number: 4685796
Abstract: A diagnostic program determines whether the machine is in a proper or improper operational state, and the scanning device is moved to a predetermined position in response to the positioning program after the entry of the key inputs by the entry program, and a copying operation is then enabled. The key entry program is executed after the machine starts, and the positioning program is executed before the start of the scanning device and after the key input entry, wherein the scan is inhibited from exposing the recording medium when the diagnostic program determines that the state of the machine is improper, or when the positioning program determines that the scanning device is not in the predetermined position. Also, the scan is enabled for exposing the recording medium when the diagnostic program determines that the state of the machine is proper and the positioning program determines that the scanning device is in the predetermined position.

  • Patent number: 4540170
Abstract: The invention provides a paper feed control device having paper feed rollers for feeding a paper sheet such as an original to a predetermined position, a first sensor for detecting the paper sheet, a second sensor for detecting leading and trailing ends of the paper sheet, a microcomputer for controlling the rollers in response to the outputs signals from the sensors, and a compensating circuit for compensating the level of the output signal from the second sensor which is maintained in a non-detecting state until the paper sheet completely passes through the second sensor. Therefore, even if punched holes for filing are formed on the paper sheet, the punched hole may not be detected as the trailing end of the paper sheet, resulting in proper feeding.
