  • Publication number: 20060003700
Abstract: A portable terminal monitors a signal level of a short-range wireless signal from a wireless communication apparatus. If the signal level drops so low that a state of connection for short-range wireless communications cannot be maintained between the two apparatuses, use of predetermined functions of the portable terminal is limited. A short-range wireless communication facility of the portable terminal and the wireless communication apparatus move into a particular operation mode if communications do not occur therebetween at least for a predetermined time period. In monitoring the signal level of the wireless signal from the wireless communication apparatus in the particular operation mode, the portable terminal reduces a response speed at which to detect a signal level change.

  • Publication number: 20050210355
Abstract: Disclosed is a wireless communication system wherein frame data is encoded with an outer code and then divided into predetermined number of blocks which are encoded with an inner code into transmission data which a receiver receives by wireless In the receiver, a decoder decodes the received transmission data in accordance with the inner code, a retransmission order determining unit determines whether or not to perform a retransmission order in units of blocks based on the likelihood information (decoded soft-decision value). At this time, the retransmission order determining unit inhibits the retransmission order for the block if the number of inner-code errors in a frame consisting of predetermined number of blocks stays within a limit of what the outer code can correct at a decoder and determines that a retransmission is necessary if the number of inner-code errors in the frame exceeds the limit.

  • Publication number: 20050053032
Abstract: In the mobile terminal, the reception quality estimating unit measures a reception quality, and at least one of the data buffer monitoring unit and the transmission power monitoring unit measures a data transmission capability. Based on the measured reception quality and data transmission capability, the terminal determines a transmission mode to be used, and reports it to the base station. The base station determines the transmission mode to be practically used in accordance with the reported transmission mode, and notifies it to the mobile terminal. The base station transmits data according to the determined transmission mode, and the mobile terminal receives data according to the notified transmission mode. Thereby, the radio communication system determines the transmission mode in consideration for not only the reception quality, but also the deficiency in the data transmission capability of the terminal.
