    Abstract: A carbon black coloring agent is obtained by (1) mixing a hydrophobic vehicle with an aqueous slurry containing a carbon black obtained by treating a furnace black having an electromicroscopic average particle size of from about 5 to about 35 m.mu. with a modifier selected from the group consisting of ozone, nitric acid, hydrogen peroxide, chromic acid and permanganate, and (2) removing the water.
