  • Publication number: 20080083586
Abstract: An oil temperature sensor is externally mounted on a side plate of an oil pan cover that constitutes an external cover for an oil pan apparatus. The oil temperature sensor can output a signal in accordance with the oil temperature prevailing near a thermostat valve apparatus in a second chamber. If the second chamber oil temperature rises immediately after startup of an engine, a CPU judges that an open valve failure has occurred, that is, the thermostat valve apparatus is stuck open. If the oil temperature of the second chamber is not raised when an adequate amount of time has elapsed after the end of a warm-up operation, the CPU judges that a closed valve failure has occurred, that is, the thermostat valve apparatus is stuck closed.

  • Patent number: 6915763
Abstract: The invention provides an engine cooling device capable of suitably promoting the warm-up of an engine. This engine cooling device comprises a cooling circuit and a heat-accumulating passage. The cooling circuit is composed of a radiator passage, a bypass passage, and a flow rate control value for controlling the flow rate of coolant flowing though the bypass passage. The heat-accumulating passage is provided with a heat-accumulating container, and constitutes a heat-accumulating circuit for causing coolant in the heat-accumulating container to circulate via the engine. The cooling device completes the heat-accumulating circuit by connecting the heat-accumulating passage to the cooling circuit to supply the cooling medium in the heat-accumulating container to the body of the engine, opens the flow rate control valve to increase a flow rate of cooling medium flowing though the bypass passage, then disconnects the heat-accumulating passage from the cooling circuit, and closes the flow rate control valve.

  • Patent number: 6629512
Abstract: An electronic control unit (ECU) of an engine system starts a control (preheat) that supplies heat reserving hot water stored in a heat accumulating device to an engine prior to an engine start. The ECU determines a time that continues the preheat on the basis of a cooling water temperature of the engine so as to execute the engine start after a warming-up of the engine is reliably finished. Further, during the execution of the preheat, a lighting lamp is turned on, and that incidence is recognized to a driver. When the preheat is completed, the ECU automatically starts the engine.

  • Patent number: 6532911
Abstract: According to an internal combustion engine of the invention, release operation of an antitheft device is selected as an event generating by necessity prior to the starting of an engine, and the pre-heat is started based on the generating timing of the selected event. The start timing of the release operation of the antitheft device is high in terms of both necessity as an event generating prior to the starting of the engine and reproducibility of the time length from its start timing to an arbitrary starting timing of the engine. The pre-heat completed state can be secured by starting the pre-heat synchronously with this timing or at a predetermined timing based on the timing, even when the engine is started at an arbitrary timing. Exhaust characteristics and fuel consumption performance can be improved by optimizing the temperature distribution of the engine at starting.

  • Patent number: 6520136
Abstract: A warm-up control device for an internal-combustion engine comprises a heat storage device for storing a heating medium heated during operation of the engine, supplies the heating medium stored in the heat storage device to a drive device (a transmission and the like) prior to the start of the engine or:at the start of the engine, and supplies the heating medium stored in the heat storage device to the drive device while maintaining a condition where the heating medium is circulated in the path excluding the heat storage device and including the drive device after the start of the engine. The warm-up control device supplies the heating medium heat-insulated and stored in the heat storage device during operation of the engine, and sets the ratio between the amount of the heating medium supplied from the heat storage device to the and the amount of the heating medium supplied from the heat storage device to the drive device, on the basis of the temperature of the engine and the temperature of the drive device.
