Patent number: 5961065Abstract: A method for winding a web onto a spool at least partially supported on a support roll in which the web passes through a nip formed between the support roll and a roll formed by the web winding on the spool. The roll being formed is loaded and/or supported by at least one loading/supporting unit which is/are displaced during initial winding stages in a direction substantially in a plane passing through a central axis of the support roll and a central axis of the roll being formed. Thereafter, the loading/supporting unit(s) is/are displaced in a direction substantially along a path parallel to a circumference of the roll being formed, and during final winding stages, the loading/supporting unit(s) is positioned to support the roll being formed from a bottom region thereof.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 1997Date of Patent: October 5, 1999Assignee: Valmet CorporationInventors: Kauko Tomma, Pauli Koutonen, Seppo Saukkonen, Jarmo Malmi, Arto Leskinen, Jari Sinkko

Patent number: 4921183Abstract: Method and device for the reeling of a web. The web is reeled by supporting an outer circumference of the roll being formed with at least two supporting units. A first such unit in a direction of arrival of the web is a carrier roll provided with a mechanical rotating drive over which the web is passed to reeling. The carrier roll forms a reeling nip supporting the roll from below. A press roll is situated above the roll being formed so that the roll being wound is stably maintained in reeling position. The roll is wound about a core in a nip support between the carrier roll, a belt roll, and the upper press roll. When the roll is wound and increased, the reeling continues the nip support by the carrier roll and the upper press roll, and additionally, on a belt supporting zone situated as a direct extension of the support zone of the belt roll.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1988Date of Patent: May 1, 1990Assignee: Valmet Paper Machinery Inc.Inventors: Seppo Saukkonen, Kauko Tomma, Vesa Raudaskoski

Patent number: 4883233Abstract: Method for controlling the reeling of a web, in which the radius and/or any other corresponding quantity of the roll that is being formed, is measured by means of detectors with the signals thereof being passed to a control system. Adjusting signals controlled by roll diameter data measured on the basis of table and/or functional data stored in a memory of the control system for different radii of the roll, are formed in the control system by which a belt carrying member is controlled, this member being situated on an adjoining quadrant of the roll being would relative to a carrier roll. The supporting linear load of this belt carrying member is controlled by adjusting the tensioning of the supporting belt. The steps of the present method are carried out so that a suitable distribution of linear load in a reeling nip is carried into effect and so that the supporting and carrying linear loads of the roll being wound remain within preset limits.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1988Date of Patent: November 28, 1989Assignee: Valmet Paper Machinery, Inc.Inventors: Seppo Saukkonen, Kauko Tomma

Patent number: 4746076Abstract: In a winder device for winding a moving web, such as paper or cardboard web, to form a roll of considerable weight, the roll is carried by support members giving it peripheral support. The support members comprise a rotatable winder drum, transmitting the web to the roll, and a movable support web device. The support members are arranged to form the main support of the roll. The support web device includes a support web having a portion between two rotatable support elements and this support web portion has a roll supporting surface of contact with the roll. The surface of contact is continuously enlarged when said roll grows, in order to eliminate the risk of roll damages due to excess support pressure when winding heavy rolls.Type: GrantFiled: November 4, 1986Date of Patent: May 24, 1988Assignee: Oy Wartsila AbInventors: Kauko Tomma, Seppo Saukkonen

Patent number: 4691488Abstract: A method for producing a constructional element comprising a steel casing filled with concrete, for instance, a machine body having good load carrying and vibration-absorbing properties. The main steel parts of the element are arranged to form a hollow casing filled with a fluid concrete mass. Internal pressure is supplied in the casing to act on the concrete mass during its hardening phase, the pressure being selected so as to provide in the steel casing an elastic deformation and expansion which substantially exceeds the shrinkage of the concrete mass during its hardening phase. The internal pressure must be sufficient to cause such a deformation of the steel casing that there is a remaining compression between the steel casing against the dry shrunk concrete in the finished element under all the loading and deforming conditions for which the constructional element has been designed.Type: GrantFiled: October 31, 1984Date of Patent: September 8, 1987Assignee: Oy Wartsila ABInventor: Kauko Tomma

Patent number: 4651942Abstract: An arrangement for the forming of a roll by winding a web in the longitudinal direction thereof around a core or the like, which arrangement comprises a supply appliance for a new core and devices for the support of the roll by a peripheral support and/or a central support and in which arrangement the supply of said new core is carried out after the removal of the complete roll, the removal of said complete roll being carried out from the winding position on the floor level over the new core, which is located in the supply appliance, said supply appliance comprising supply units and being adapted in connection with a movable support appliance, said new core being supplied in to the winding position to retain a leading end of the web against a support drum exerting the peripheral support, said support appliance comprising a movable support member exerting a holding grip on the core in the winding position or in the immediate vicinity thereof.Type: GrantFiled: June 19, 1985Date of Patent: March 24, 1987Assignee: Oy Wartsila AbInventor: Kauko Tomma

Patent number: 4601435Abstract: In an arrangement for forming rolls from a running web, the web is slit in its longitudinal direction and wound into a plurality of rolls, all having the same rotation direction during winding. The arrangement comprises means providing a peripheral as well as a central roll support force acting on the rolls during winding. The arrangement is so dimensioned that, due to the increase of the roll diameter during winding, the ratio of the peripheral support force and the central support force of a roll undergoes a substantial change merely as a result of the geometrical construction features of the arrangement. In the final phase of the winding of a roll, the central support force of the roll is considerably higher than the peripheral support force of the roll.Type: GrantFiled: June 25, 1984Date of Patent: July 22, 1986Assignee: Oy Wartsila AbInventors: Kauko Tomma, Jarmo Malmi

Patent number: 3949948Abstract: A device for cutting a web into a plurality of longitudinal sections, comprising slitters, a center drum and supporting arms for rewind rolls formed of adjacent slitted web sections and located at opposite sides of the center drum. The arms are attached to sliding carriages movable along guide beams in a cross-web direction and the slitters are attached to the sliding carriages and move with them when the slitting width is set, so that the slitters and the supporting arms are automatically correctly positioned with respect to each other in a cross-web direction. The supporting arms are journalled at the rolls and at the sliding carriages and are free to move away from the center drum without affecting the position of the sliding carriages which are kept stationary during cutting and rewinding operations.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1974Date of Patent: April 13, 1976Assignee: Oy Wartsila ABInventor: Kauko Tomma
