  • Patent number: 9959624
Abstract: An in-vehicle system for identifying turn-only and shared turn lanes and identifying turn rules according to visual indicia captured from turn signs. An image apparatus configured to obtain image data including graphic data and/or text data from a roadway sign, as well as street light image data for an intersection on the roadway. The image data may be processed to detect a graphic image and/or text from the image data relating to the roadway sign. Street light image data may also be captured and processed to determine a street light status. An identification module may determine rules for turning on the intersection of the roadway based on the processed image data relating to the roadway sign, wherein the identification module is further configured to determine if the turn on the roadway is allowed based on the determined street light status.

  • Patent number: 9470537
Abstract: An in-vehicle system for determining whether a vehicle has moved off of a main roadway and into an exit lane. A navigation unit determines that an exit is approaching on a first side of the vehicle, and a camera obtains image data regarding lane markings and exit signs in response to a notification that the exit is approaching. An image processor identifies predetermined patterns among the lane markings, including V-shaped patterns or Y-shaped patterns. The system determines that the vehicle has moved into the exit lane in response to an identification of one of the predetermined patterns on a second side of the vehicle opposite the first side of the vehicle. The system may verify its determination based on recognition of an exit sign on the second side of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9459623
Abstract: An intersection decision system for autonomously navigating an autonomous vehicle through a stop sign intersection. The intersection decision system includes an intersection arrival detector configured to automatically detect that the vehicle has arrived at the stop sign intersection, a vehicle detector for automatically detecting previously-arrived vehicles at the stop sign intersection, and a pedestrian detector for automatically detecting pedestrians crossing at the stop sign intersection. The intersection decision system determines whether the detected pedestrians are obstructing the previously-arrived vehicles from proceeding through the stop sign intersection. If so, the intersection decision system determines that the autonomous vehicle should proceed through the stop sign intersection without waiting for the previously-arrived vehicles to proceed through the stop sign intersection.
