  • Patent number: 8585964
Abstract: This invention provides a novel, synergistic composition and method for reducing corrosion, particularly white rust corrosion, on galvanized metal surfaces in industrial water systems. The composition is a synergistic blend and preferably comprises from about 0 to about 10 weight percent of an amine-based white rust corrosion reducer and from about 10 to about 90 weight percent of a benzotriazole. In a method for using the synergistic blend, an effective amount of the blend is introduced onto the galvanized metal surface to form a barrier on the surface. After one or more time intervals, the composition is optionally overlayed onto the initial barrier by reintroducing an effective amount of the composition onto the galvanized metal surface.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: January 13, 2009
Date of Patent: November 19, 2013
    Assignee: Nalco Company
Inventors: Kaveh Sotoudeh, Sherman J. Sprague, Frank Fun-Yuee Lu, Tom Kim
  • Patent number: 8470238
Abstract: Compositions and methods of using such compositions for reducing copper ion discharge from aqueous systems is disclosed and claimed. The composition includes a synergistic combination of at least two different benzotriazoles or salts thereof that effectively provides an erosion-resistant barrier on copper-containing surfaces of industrial systems.

    Filed: November 20, 2008
Date of Patent: June 25, 2013
    Assignee: Nalco Company
Inventors: Kaveh Sotoudeh, Michael A. Kamrath, Jasbir S. Gill
