  • Patent number: 8437588
Abstract: Optical vector vortex beams may be generated from few-mode or multi-mode optical fiber by introducing linearly or circularly polarized light into the fiber. By adjusting at least one of the polarization of the light, the incident angle of the light coupled into the fiber, and the length of the fiber, one or more vector modes supported by the fiber may be selected. The resulting output from the fiber may be a vortex beam that can be collimated and used for precise manipulation of objects on order of a micrometer or a nanometer in diameter.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 6, 2010
Date of Patent: May 7, 2013
    Assignee: University of Hyderabad

  • Patent number: 6990274
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for adjusting the spectral response of an optical waveguide grating include a longitudinal optical waveguide grating attached to a support member having a centroidal axis. The support member is configured for longitudinal bending and rotating about its centroidal axis. The spectral response of the optical waveguide grating is adjusted by bending and rotating the support member about its centroidal axis.

Date of Patent: January 24, 2006
    Assignee: 3M Innovative Properties Company
Inventors: James R. Bylander, Kavita Vemuri

  • Patent number: 6788851
Abstract: An apparatus and method for adjusting the spectral response of a selected channel within an optical waveguide grating includes a grating attached to a support member. An adjusting mechanism applies two bending moments to the grating support member on both sides of the selected channel. The spectral response of the selected channel is adjusted by altering the bending moments.
