  • Publication number: 20220096739
Abstract: The present invention provides devices and methods for controlled and continuous delivery of drugs into the brain by bypassing the blood brain barrier, without the need for any surgical manipulation of the brain. The respiratory mucosa in the maxillary sinus or in the nasal region is surgically accessed from the oral or maxillofacial region through a window made on the bone overlying the mucosa. The device is used to deliver drugs in a continuous and controlled manner either beneath or above the respiratory mucosa depending on the clinical requirements, drug formulation and the volume of drug used. The drug distributes into the brain from the delivery site by bypassing the blood brain barrier without causing any significant increase of the drug in the peripheral circulation. The device can be used for continuous and controlled drug delivery into the brain by bypassing the blood brain barrier for a number of medical conditions.
