  • Patent number: 4404967
Abstract: A surgical strut for the treatment of the back-bone built of a rod having a circular cross-section provided with a thrust pin protruding at one side, a longitudinally cut sleeve mounted on the rod and a pectoral hook and a lumbar hook fitted on spinous processes of vertebrae. Along the cut of the sleeve skew recesses are made which constitute bearing surfaces for the pin mounted in the rod.One end of the sleeve, closer to the end of the rod, has the outer surface in a form of a cone. On the said surface the pectoral hook rests whose part of the inner surface of the hole is also conical forming the seat for the conical end of the sleeve. The thrust pin, the sleeve and the pectoral hook are situated on the same end of the rod of the strut. On the other end of the rod the lumbar hook of the known design is mounted. Skew recesses in the sleeve depending on the required adjustment pitch of the length of the strut are situated on the same side or alternately on both sides of the cut of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4369770
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a surgical strut for treatment of the back-bone.The strut has a rod having a round cross section provided at one end with a number of through holes disposed perpendicularly to the rod axis. The axes of neighboring holes form an angle of 90.degree.. Said holes are aimed at fitting a pin fixing the position of the hook, mostly the pectoral one, mounted on the rod. Said hook is provided with a round hole the wall whereof is from the side of the front face provided with four recesses disposed on the periphery every 90.degree., constituting the seats for the pin.In order to maintain a suitable elasticity the rods of the struts having the lengths smaller than 250 mm have a differentiated diameter the dimension whereof in relation to the rod length constitutes a ratio of 1:20 through 1:35. The hook co-operating with this section of the rod, mostly the lumbar hook, is provided with a blind hole wherein the rod end is supported.

  • Patent number: 4271836
Abstract: This invention relates to an appliance for correction of spinal curvatures, performed in course of treatment by means of surgical struts. The appliance has a form of a double-arm lever making possible to extend the effective length of the strut placed in the patient's body, whereby one arm of said lever is ended with a holder for clamping the hook of the strut, the other arm being provided with a screw adjusting the spacing of the arms and the displacement of the hook along the strut. This arm is cut longitudinally, one part whereof being provided with a tapped hole wherein said adjusting screw operates, whereas the other part is provided with a port and with a pivot whereon the link mechanism and the pointer of a dynamometer are mounted. The side surface of said arm carries a scale whereover the tip of said pointer travels indicating the value of the force being applied to the operator.

  • Patent number: 4257409
Abstract: The subject of the invention is a device for surgical treatment of spinal curvatures, especially of scoliotic and kyphotic curvatures. The device is provided with hooks varying in design and a distraction spacer, and comprises a longitudinal contractor fixed in holes and a transverse contractor adjusting the position of the spacer in relation to the longitudinal contractor. The longitudinal contractor is in the form of a profiled bar 1 provided at one end with a bearing surface 2 and at the other end--with a longitudinal cut forming tips 3 and 4 which are plastically deformed after placing and fixing of the bar 1 in hooks. The transverse contractor comprises a threaded pin 9 provided at one end with a fixed catch 10 and at the other end--with a tilting catch 11 with a threaded lock provided at one end with a bevelled internal surface 12 and at the other end--with a recess which has protruding elements 13. The said elements, after plastic deformation, set and block the position of the lock on the pin.
