  • Patent number: 5397218
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor is disclosed. A swash plate mounted on a rotary shaft reciprocally drives a double headed piston in cylinder bores. The rotary shaft is supported by valve plates, via a pair of tapered roller bearings. Outer races of the bearings are slidably fitted into sleeves, respectively. A disc spring disposed between protrusions for holding a front housing and the outer race is resiliently deformed for applying a preload to the rotary shaft. Protrusions for holding a rear housing abut against the outer race. Cylinder blocks, valve plates and housings are tightly connected one to another by a plurality of through bolts.

  • Patent number: 5393205
Abstract: A compressor includes first and second cylinder blocks having cylinder bores and surrounding a drive shaft, and the bores of the first block are aligned and registered with the bores of the second block, respectively, the blocks being arranged to define a suction chamber therebetween. First and second housings are associated with the first and second blocks to define first and second discharge chambers therebetween, which are in communication with each other through a central passage of the drive shaft. Double-headed pistons are slidably received in the pairs of aligned bores, respectively, and a conversion mechanism is disposed within the suction chamber for converting a rotation of the shaft into a reciprocation of each piston in the corresponding aligned cylinder bores such that suction and compression strokes are alternately executed. A rotary valve introduces fluid into the bores just after the suction stroke is initiated, and the introduction of fluid is continued until the suction stroke is finished.

  • Patent number: 5385451
Abstract: A swash-plate type compressor comprising a cylinder block, front and rear valve plates, and front and rear housings attached to either end of the cylinder block over the valve plates. A swash-plate is accommodated in the cylinder block to reciprocally move a plurality of double headed pistons which form compression chambers on either side thereof. A drive shaft carries the swash-plate and is supported by a pair of tapered roller bearings. Each of the tapered roller bearings is secured in the central hole of each valve plate. Also, each valve plate is coupled to the cylinder block in a locating projection-locating hole fitting relationship to effect centering the drive shaft relative to the cylinder block. In addition, a suction passage is arranged to introduce the refrigerating gas from the swash-plate chamber to each of the compression chambers in such a manner as to reduce the radius of the cylinder block.

  • Patent number: 5378115
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block cooperating to form therein a compartment accommodating therein a swash plate and also serving as a suction chamber of the compressor, and a drive shaft rotatably supported in the cylinder block and having formed therein an axial discharge passage connecting front and rear discharge chambers. The compressor further includes a pair of front and rear rotary type suction valves mounted on the drive shaft for rotation therewith and fitted in bores formed centrally in the cylinder block such that one axial end thereof is exposed to suction pressure and the other end to discharge pressure of the refrigerant gas. Each suction valve has formed therein a passage which is in constant communication with the swash plate compartment and is operable to bring its passage in communication successively with fluid working chambers in synchronism with the rotation of the drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 5368450
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor comprises a cylinder block having formed therein a compartment accommodating therein a swash plate and a plurality of axial cylinder bores each receiving therein a reciprocally movable double-headed piston. The compressor further comprises a drive shaft having formed therein a discharge passage in communication with front and rear discharge chambers in front and rear housings, respectively, which are fastened to the axial ends of the cylinder block. The drive shaft is supported by a pair of front and rear tapered roller bearings and these two bearings are arranged in such a way that at least part of refrigerant gas discharged into either one of the discharge chambers flows through both of the front and rear bearings so that the bearings are lubricated by oil contained in and entrained by the refrigerant gas.

  • Patent number: 5316447
Abstract: A compressor comprises a cylinder block having cylinder bores formed radially spaced from and circumferentially distributed equidistantly about the cylinder longitudinal axis. Pistons are slidably received in the respective bores for reciprocation therein executing alternately suction and discharge strokes. The compressor also has a discharge valve assembly for controlling discharge of a compressed fluid from each of the bores into a discharge chamber, which assembly is axially movable between a first position in which the assembly is abutted against an end wall of the block and a second position in which the assembly is spaced from the end wall of the block to define a narrow space therebetween to interconnect the bores with each other. When the assembly is pushed toward the second position by the pressure of the compressed fluid during initial running of the compressor, bypass channels interconnect the cylinder with the discharge chamber.

  • Patent number: 5244355
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor includes a cylinder blocks having a crank case which communicates with a suction port and a plurality of bores formed therein. The ends of each bore are covered with a pair of housings. The bores communicate with discharge chambers. A drive shaft is rotatably placed within the cylinder blocks. A swash plate is rotatable in the crank case, and is mounted on the drive shaft. A plurality of pistons are drivably coupled to the swash plate, and are reciprocotable in their respective bores. As the pistons reciprocate, a refrigerant in the crank case is sucked into each bore and is compressed therein. The compressed refrigerant is discharged into the discharge chambers from the bores. A passage for transporting the refrigerant between the discharge chambers is formed along the axis of the drive shaft. Seals are provided between the cylinder blocks and the drive shaft for sealing the gap between the discharge chambers and the crank case.

  • Patent number: 5207563
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor is provided with a plurality of cylinders and a front and rear cylinder blocks having a crank case connected to a suction port. The cylinder blocks are connected to a front and rear housing sections in order to cover the cylinders. Each housing section contains a discharge chamber. A drive shaft is rotatable supported by the cylinder blocks. One end of the drive shaft is sealed within the front housing. A swash plate is mounted on the drive shaft and is rotatably disposed within the crank case. A plurality of two-head pistons engage the swash plate via a pair of shoes. The pistons move within their respective cylinders in cooperation with the swash plate. The refrigerant is sucked into each cylinder via a suction passage, and is then compressed therein. The refrigerant is discharged into the external refrigerating circuit through the front and rear discharge chambers, .and the front and rear discharge ports.

  • Patent number: 5178521
Abstract: A swash plate type compressor comprising a swash plate accommodated in a swash plate chamber. Front and rear housings are attached to the cylinder block to form suction chambers and discharge chambers, respectively. A refrigerating medium is introduced from a suction inlet to the suction chambers via the swash plate chamber and discharged from the discharge chambers. A drive shaft is fixed to the swash plate for reciprocally moving pistons. The drive shaft has a discharge passage in the form of an axial bore formed in the drive shaft for connecting the front discharge chamber to the rear discharge chamber. The discharge passage is thus isolated from the suction system.
