Abstract: A hybrid printer includes a first printer, a second printer and a printer mounting base capable of mounting the first and second printers. The first printer has a first printing section for printing on a first recording paper, a first transfer path for transferring the first recording paper to the first printing section, a first base having the first transfer path formed thereon, and a first cantilever for supporting the first printing section above the first base. The second printer has a second printing section for printing on a second recording paper. The printer mounting base has a second base, a second transfer path formed on the second base and a second cantilever fixed to the second base. The second printer is mountable on the second cantilever of the printer mounting base.

Abstract: A modular, multi-function information processing device suitable for point-of-sale (POS) station arrangements wherein separate printer and controller components are individually housed and arranged in a stacked vertical configuration. This arrangement save space by minimizing the overall footprint of the station. The connection between these components can be easily established or terminated for performing maintenance on a particular component or subassembly. Subassemblies within the housing may be extracted without impacting the overall structure of the device or use of the other components, and additional components can be easily added.

The control device includes a general purpose processor controlled by a general purpose operating system and a control device connector for connecting the control device to the printing apparatus. The printing apparatus comprises a first connector connecting the printing apparatus to the control device through the control device connector. A second connector connects the printing apparatus to an external device. A processor for processes first data input from the first connector and second data input from the second connector. The first connector is in communication with the second connector. The POS terminal also comprises a housing including a first body frame for accommodating the printing apparatus and a second body frame for accommodating the control device, the first body frame being detachably mounted on the second body frame.

Abstract: A portable printing system is provided for printing an image, such as alphanumeric or symbol information on a moveable recording medium, such as a tape, a sheet or the like, by means of manual scanning of the recording medium relative to the printing system. The printing system comprises a hand-held printer unit including a print head having an array of printing elements in combination with an adjacently disposed drive roller both disposed in cooperative arrangement along one edge of the printer unit. The drive roller is coupled to an encoder inside the unit that generates timing pulses upon rotational movement of the drive roller which control the rate of printing at the printing head of the printer to synchronize printing with the rate of movement of the recording medium relative to the printer unit.
