  • Patent number: 8567374
Abstract: The present invention provides an internal combustion engine comprising an engine body 100, an overhang 101 projecting from a cylinder row end the engine body 100 and extending from an intake side 21 to an exhaust side 23 of the engine body, and an EGR pipe 41 disposed in a space 102 defined under the overhang 101 with a gap 103 between the EGR pipe 41 and the cylinder row end of the engine body, thereby avoiding the excessive cooling of EGR gas passing through the EGR pipe 41 while reducing a length of a passage defined by the EGR pipe 41, and preventing members disposed near the EGR pipe 41 from being damaged by heat.

  • Patent number: 7665435
Abstract: An internal combustion engine has a camshaft holder 20 attached to a cylinder head 1, and two camshafts 11 and 12 are rotatably supported by the camshaft holder 20. A high-pressure pump 60 has a driving shaft 63 rotatively driven by the camshaft. An accessory holder 30 provided with a mounting seat 40 to which the high-pressure fuel pump 60 is attached is formed integrally with a lower camshaft holder 21 included in the camshaft holder 20. The mounting seat 40 is formed integrally with the accessory holder 30 and is provided with a through hole 41 in which the driving shaft 63 is received. Thus the cylinder head 1 is formed in a small size and a light weight. The accessory holder 30 can be formed with a high rigidity in a small size.

  • Patent number: 6796281
Abstract: A valve train of an internal combustion engine has rocker arms which are spherically supported on lash adjusters and camshafts disposed above the rocker arms. The camshafts are rotatably supported on a cam holder including a lower cam holder which is fastened to a cylinder head and an upper cam holder. Projections for preventing the fall of the rocker arms in axial directions of the camshafts through the contact with the rocker arms are provided on bearing portions and partitioning portions which are integrally formed on the lower cam holder in such a manner as to face both sides in the axial direction of the rocker arms.

  • Patent number: 5460130
Abstract: An SOHC-type valve operating system in an internal combustion engine having a single cam shaft commonly provided for a pair of intake valves and a pair of exhaust valves. A plurality of intake valve driving members are rockably disposed between the cam shaft and the pair of intake valves and have an operative-connection switchover mechanism for switching over the connection and disconnection of the intake valve driving members. A pair of exhaust valve driving members are rockably disposed between the cam shaft and the pair of exhaust valves and independently operate each of the exhaust valves. The operative-connection switchover mechanism includes a switchover pin movable between a position for operatively connecting adjacent intake valve driving members and a position for releasing such connection, which pin is slidably mounted in a cylindrical sleeve secured to the intake valve driving members for guiding the movement of the switchover pin.

  • Patent number: 4829948
Abstract: A valve operating device for the intake or exhaust valves of an internal combustion engine wherein a plurality of cam followers are disposed adjacent to each other for operation by different cams in mutually different modes dependent on the speed of rotation of a camshaft. A selective coupling mechanism disposed in and between the cam followers has switching pins movable between a connecting position in which the cam followers are interconnected and a disconnecting position in which the cam followers are disconnected. An oil passage is provided in one or more of the cam followers and the switching pin therein is arranged to control the rate of flow of oil through the oil passage defined in that cam follower in response to movement of the switching pin between the connecting and disconnecting positions. The oil supplied through the oil passage is used for lubricating the cam and cam following sliding surfaces in one embodiment and for operating hydraulic valve lash adjusters in another embodiment.
