    Abstract: Provided is a rectangular secondary battery with improved rigidity against vibrations and impacts. A rectangular secondary battery of the present invention includes: a flat-shaped electrode group; a current-collecting plate electrically connected to the electrode group; a battery case accommodating the current-collecting plate and the electrode group; a battery cover that closes an opening of the battery case; an electrode terminal penetrating through the battery cover, the electrode terminal being connected to the current-collecting plate via a connecting member; and a gasket that is inserted between the electrode terminal and the battery cover for insulating and sealing. An insulator is disposed between the current-collecting plate and the battery cover, the battery cover includes a battery cover side fixing part that fixes the insulator, and the insulator includes a current-collecting plate side fixing part that fixes the current-collecting plate.

The busbar (2) joins terminals of a plurality of battery cells, the terminals each including a dissimilar metal. The busbar includes: a copper portion (2e) to be connected to a first terminal (in) of a first battery; an aluminum portion (2f) to be connected to a second terminal (1p) of a second battery; and a joint (2x) including the copper portion bonded to the aluminum portion. The aluminum portion is placed so as not to overlap the bonding region between the first terminal and the copper portion, and has arms (2f1) extending in a direction from the second terminal to the first terminal. The joint includes the copper portion bonded to the arms, and the arms have a width such that a proximal end portion is wider than a distal end portion of the arms.

The current cut-off mechanism is accommodated in the battery container, and is provided with a diaphragm connected to the external terminal and a current collector connected to the electrode. The diaphragm is disposed on an outer side of the battery container than the current collector and has a convex shape toward an inside of the battery container. The current collector includes a concave portion on a surface facing the outer side of the battery container, and the diaphragm is bonded to the concave portion.

    Abstract: A rectangular secondary battery includes a current breaking mechanism with improved rigidity against vibration and impact. The current breaking mechanism is interposed in the middle of a current path electrically connected between an external terminal and a wound electrode group to break the current path by the rise of battery internal pressure. The current breaking mechanism includes a connection electrode arranged inside a battery lid and electrically connected to the external terminal, and a conductive plate bonded to the connection electrode and deformed by the rise of the battery internal pressure. The connection electrode includes a tabular member having a through hole in communication with the outside of the battery opening on a planar portion. The conductive plate includes a dome-shaped diaphragm portion gradually reducing its diameter as shifting in an axial direction and a flange portion extending radially outward from an outer peripheral portion of the diaphragm portion.

A gas passage is provided between the case surface portion and the sealing cover for communicating a gap formed at a position outer to the pressure sensitive adhesive member with respect to a battery case and the injection opening in a ventilation manner.
