  • Patent number: 6888650
Abstract: A document reading apparatus and method are provided for outputting an image faithful to a document as possible even if the document is accidentally fed in an oblique fashion on the way of a sheet feeding path. For this purpose, a plurality of document end detecting sensors S1 to S3 are disposed on the way of the sheet feeding path 5, and further, a reading controller 20 calculates a skew quantity ? of the document with respect to the sheet feeding path 5 based on a signal output from the document end detecting sensor, thereby adjusting a document reading timing in accordance with the skew quantity.

  • Publication number: 20050012259
Abstract: A sheet handling apparatus includes a sheet stacker for stacking sheets; a separating device for separating and feeding the sheets stacked on the sheet stacker; and a register roller disposed adjacent to the separating device for correcting a skew of the sheet. An ultrasonic wave sensor composed of a wave sending sensor and a wave receiving sensor is arranged between the separating device and the register roller obliquely relative to a surface of the sheet. A judging device is electrically connected to the ultrasonic wave sensor for detecting a double feed of the sheets based upon an output signal from the wave receiving sensor at a predetermined time after the register roller starts rotating. A control device electrically connected to the judging device and the register roller controls the register roller to stop and rotate.

  • Publication number: 20040252353
Abstract: There are provided a light volume detection means arranged at a position of one side end in a direction perpendicular to a transfer direction of the sheet to be transferred to detect the light volume according to the deviation amount at the sheet transfer position in a direction perpendicular to the transfer direction of the sheet end, and an operation means for calculating the deviation amount with respect to a reference position of the sheet transfer position, whereby a deviation position of the sheet is not detected by ON/OFF of pixel by pixel but if the light volume according to the deviation amount of a transfer position of the sheet, a light receiving element having a number of pixels need not be used. Therefore, the price is low, and a signal processing circuit is also extremely simple.

  • Patent number: 6470432
Abstract: In a data processing system in which main and sub disk storage devices are under the control of individual each disk control devices, the write processing time is reduced by selectively sending data according to the command-chaining time between main and sub disk control devices. A section for judging cable length and function of the sub disk control device 36 estimates command-chaining time between a pair of main and sub disk storage devices. The channel command analyzing section 31 estimates the number of records to be transferred and the length of a record using a LOCATE RECORD command. The command judgment section for the sub disk control device 32 optimizes the command-chain to be issued to the sub disk control device using the above-mentioned information. Then, the section for issuing command to the sub disk control device 35 issues the optimized command chain. Thus, a shorter transmission time is realized by either sending individual records or an entire track of data.

  • Patent number: 5073739
Abstract: An ultrasonic actuator using longitudinal and bending vibrations which are effectively coupled by controlling piezoelectricity generated in one of piezoelectric members attached onto an elastic vibrational member. Discharging electric charge induced in the piezoelectric member due to vibrations excited in the vibrational member, the piezoelectric member varies in stiffness to bring about electrical asymmetry within the vibrational member and allow the vibrations induced in the vibrational member to be coupled. Consequently, the ultrasonic actuator can be activated by single-phase alternating current with high efficiency.
