    Abstract: An anti-inflammatory, analgesic and anti-pruritic compositions for topical application is made by mixing an aqueous alcoholic solution of methanol or camphor with sufficient water soluble carboxyvinyl polymer to give a viscosity of 2,000 to 20,000 centipoises at 20.degree. C., sufficient basic agent, such as an amine, to neutralize the carboxyl groups to a pH of 6.0-7.5 and a small amount of sodium chloride.

Said new type of preparation of clotrimazole can be applied to the skin without drawbacks such as skin irritation and soiling of clothes as seen in the conventional tincture or ointments.

    Abstract: A creamy preparation containing a steroid compound having a pH of 4 to 7 and a viscosity of 10,000 to 100,000 centipoises, which is applicable to the skin and comprises a steroid compound (corticosteroids), a fluid oily substance, a nonionic surfactant, and an aqueous solution of carboxyvinyl polymer, said preparation having been neutralized with a basic substance, and a process for the preparation thereof. The creamy preparation has an excellent absorbability of the active steroid, excellent stability and excellent spreadability onto the skin and also good feeling in use.
