  • Publication number: 20080228383
Abstract: Exhaust emission control is exercised to restrict the exhaust amounts [g] of HC, CO, NOx, and the like. However, since the intake air amount for startup unduly increases due to an engine speed overshoot for startup, the exhaust amounts of HC, CO, and NOx increase excessively. Therefore, there is a need for optimizing the intake air amount for startup. The present invention proposes an engine startup control method that assures excellent startability and low exhaust emissions (small gas amount). Disclosed is an engine control device for starting an engine (from its stop state). The engine control device includes a section for setting a target engine operating state of each combustion; a section for detecting an actual engine operating state of each combustion; and a section for computing a control parameter for each subsequent combustion in accordance with the target engine operating state of each combustion and the actual engine operating state of each combustion.

  • Publication number: 20070261671
Abstract: An engine controller comprises a combustion state detection or estimation means for detecting or estimating a combustion state in the combustion chamber, a combustion air-fuel ratio estimation means for estimating a combustion air-fuel ratio in the combustion chamber according to an exhaust air-fuel ratio and the detected or estimated combustion state, and a means for calculating engine control parameters according to the estimated combustion air-fuel ratio.

  • Publication number: 20070169757
Abstract: An engine control apparatus which can ensure and maintain a stability and constant exhaust emission characteristics even in such a condition that a nature of a fuel used as present is unsure, and which is robust among different fuel natures, comprising a plurality of different nature fuel quantity computing means and an operating condition detecting means for detecting an operating condition of an engine, wherein a first nature fuel quantity computing means among the plurality of different nature fuel quantity computing means is used as a fuel quantity computing means during an engine start, and the first nature fuel quantity computing means is forcibly changed over into a second nature fuel quantity computing means if an engine operating condition detected by the operating condition detecting means satisfies a predetermined term.

  • Patent number: 6497846
Abstract: An exhaust gas purifying system for a cylinder direct internal combustion engine having a fuel injector valve for directly injecting fuel into a combustion chamber of the engine. The exhaust gas purifying system comprises an adsorbent catalytic converter disposed in an exhaust gas passageway of the engine. The adsorbent catalytic converter including a catalytic element having an adsorption layer. The adsorption layer contains an adsorbent for adsorbing HC (hydrocarbons) of exhaust gas in a first temperature range and to release the adsorbed HC in a second temperature range which is high relative to the first temperature range, and a catalyst component for promoting reaction for oxidizing HC which is released from the adsorbent.

  • Patent number: 6289673
Abstract: A catalyst in an exhaust passage for an engine is capable of storing oxygen. A memory stores, as an oxygen storage capacity, an oxygen storage amount at the time of change of the downstream air-fuel ratio on the downstream side of the catalyst from stoichiometric to lean. A processor calculates the current oxygen storage amount accurately in due consideration of a fast oxygen absorbing rate in the case of the downstream air-fuel ratio being stoichiometric, and a slow oxygen absorbing rate in the case of the downstream air-fuel ratio being lean, and controls the air-fuel ratio of the exhaust gas mixture flowing into the catalyst so as to bring the oxygen storage amount in a region under the oxygen storage capacity.

  • Patent number: 5088346
Abstract: A power plant structure for four wheel drive cars includes an engine part, a clutch part, a transmission part and a transfer part. The clutch part comprises a clutch which is received in a clutch housing. The clutch is coaxially connected to the engine. The transmission part comprises a transmission which is received in a transmission case. The transfer part comprises a transfer and differentials which are received in a transfer case. In order to increase the rigidity of the power plant, the following measures are taken. The transmission part and the transfer part are arranged in parallel with and beside the engine part and the clutch part. The transfer part is located below the transmission part. The clutch housing, the transmission case and the transfer case constitute a monolithic housing construction which is secured to the engine part.
