  • Patent number: 5709027
Abstract: An apparatus and method for making harnesses containing press-inserted contacts is disclosed in which connectors of the concerned type can be automatically connected to one or more other connectors by wires of the same or of varying lengths and wherein connectors of diverse forms and various layouts can be utilized. A plurality of tables adapted to carry wire-receiving connectors are arranged to be selectively relatively movable with respect to each other, including movement in a transverse direction. Wire is supplied to the connectors by selectively operable wire metering rollers and press-insertion blades associated with the respective tables operate to press-insert the supplied wires for electrical contact with the respective connectors. The present invention contemplates utilization of a wire stripping machine and/or a continuity test jig in the disclosed operation and apparatus.

  • Patent number: 5697146
Abstract: An apparatus for crimping a terminal includes a crimper vertically reciprocating to crimp electric terminals to conductors of a striped wire, and anvil opposing the crimper, and an operating mechanism for vertically reciprocating the crimper. The operating mechanism has a piston-crank apparatus to vertically reciprocate a ram attached to the crimper and a servo-motor connected to a circular plate in the piston-crank mechanism by way of a reduction gear. The operating mechanism also has a control device that stops the servo-motor for a given time period when the crimper is positioned at its lowest position to prevent spring-back of the crimper material.

  • Patent number: 5669257
Abstract: A terminal barrel is crimped to a wire laid on an anvil. In the crimping operation, a servo-motor drives a driving axis, the forward and reverse rotation of which vertically reciprocates a crimper. The operation includes the steps of: preliminary recording reference speeds or accelerations of the crimper at vertical positions in the reciprocating movement, and the reference value of a current which is supplied to the servo-motor when the terminal is crimped; descending the crimper at the reference speeds corresponding to the crimper position while the crimper descends from its top position to its crimping start position; crimping the terminal by supplying the reference current to the servo-motor during a predetermined period while the crimper is crimping the terminal.

  • Patent number: 5646802
Abstract: A reduced height disk drive includes a suspension-actuator assembly in which a head suspension (10) is attached to an actuator (9) on the same side of the head suspension as a transducer head (8) is attached to the head suspension for writing and reading information on and from a disk (7). A spin motor cable (17) is located on the outside of a housing (2) and connected to pins (14) extending from the housing through pins (18) extending from the housing and lines (16) contained in the housing. A printed circuit board (3) having a through hole (3e) in which a connector (13) is provided connects to pins (14) extending from the housing. A flexible printed circuit inside the housing has a connector (11k) for connecting to the pins (14) and (18) at one end and a fixing member for mechanically attaching to the pins at the other end. The flexible printed circuit is attached to the pins in a folded condition.

  • Patent number: 5611141
Abstract: A wire crimping apparatus includes a pair of wire-length setting rollers, a pair of crimping cylinders arranged in a direction of feeding a wire, a pair of wire guides which are openably/closably attached between said pair of crimping cylinders, a pair of moving tables which has connector container grooves opposite to said pair of crimping blades and can move independently of a direction horizontally orthogonal to a wire, and a wire guide stand which has a wire pushing-down cylinder and can move in the direction vertically orthogonal to the wire. On a pair of moving tables, each wire is crimped to the connector on a first moving table at a forward position in the direction of wire feeding, is extended to have a required length between the moving tables by the wire-length setting roller, crimped to the connector on a second moving table at a backward position in the direction of wire feeding, and the moving tables are moved in opposite directions to connect wires between the connectors in a crossing manner.

  • Patent number: 5520079
Abstract: The invention relates to a terminal carrier chipper for chipping a terminal carrier that couples a plurality of terminals in concatenation during the process of fabricating a wire harness used in electrical circuits. The object of the invention is to provide a terminal carrier chipper in simple structure, which is less vibrating and noisy and whose blade section exhibits an improved durability. The terminal carrier chipper according to the present invention includes: a fixed blade 3; a moving blade lever 9; and a rotating cam 5. The moving blade lever 9 is oscillated around a support shaft 10 by rotating the cam 5 while causing a projection 5a of the cam 5 to come in contact with a cam guide 11 arranged on the moving blade lever, so that a blade edge 9c of the moving blade lever nears and leaves a blade edge 3a of the fixed blade 3 to thereby chip a terminal carrier T.

  • Patent number: 5317462
Abstract: To provide a magnetic disk apparatus in which an outline of a seal for hermetically sealing is identical with that of a cover and base having steps at the periphery thereof. In a sealed magnetic disk apparatus in which a cover and base having steps at the periphery thereof are joined together via a seal, two slopes 48 and 50 are provided, in a turned or stairs-like form, at each step portion at the periphery of a cover 60 and a base 40. The first slope 48 descends from the periphery toward the inside, and the second slope 50 connecting to the first slope descends from the inside toward the periphery. The slopes of the cover are provided to mate with those of the base, respectively. A seal 70 has an outline which is substantially identical with that of the cover 60 and the base 40 and includes projections 72 and 74 covering the slopes.

  • Patent number: 5004207
Abstract: A device that is to be isolated from mechanical shock and vibration such as a magnetic disk storage device is provided with a series of four shock mounting members that have a bolt projecting from one axial end and a stiffened grooved portion at the opposite axial end. A frame member with a rigid end portion and cantilevered, resilient frame members extending therefrom carries a series of U-shaped hook portions that are aligned with the shock mounting members. The pair of hooks on the end portion face the same direction and extend in the opposite direction with respect to the cantilevered frame portions. The other pair of hooks are mounted on the resilient cantilevered frame portions and face toward or away from one another so that they may be placed in engagement with the cooperating shock mounting member grooves by forcing the cantilevered frame portions toward or away from one another and thereafter releasing such parts when the hooks are aligned with the respective grooves.
