  • Patent number: 6107779
Abstract: When a battery as an energy source for propelling an electric vehicle is repeatedly charged and discharged, the calculated remaining capacity of the battery tends to suffer a large error due to an error of a current sensor which detects a battery current. In order to detect the remaining capacity with high accuracy, a remaining capacity 1 detected on the basis of an integrated value of a discharging current and a remaining capacity 2 detected on the basis of the output power of the battery at a present time are compared with each other, and the remaining capacity is determined depending on the result of comparison. The output power of the battery at the present time depends on the remaining capacity at the present time. Thereafter, after the battery is charged and discharged in repeated cycles, the remaining capacity 1 is presumed as suffering a large error, and the remaining capacity 2 is determined as the remaining capacity, so that the remaining capacity can be detected with accuracy.

  • Patent number: 6002221
Abstract: A system is provided to clearly determine a problem in the discharge of a capacitor provided for an inverter of an electric vehicle and its cause. If a capacitor voltage drops below a predetermined value at the end of a first predetermined time period after a main contactor is turned off, it is determined that the main contactor and a discharge circuit are normal. If the capacitor voltage drops below the predetermined value for the first time after a second predetermined time period, it is determined that the discharge circuit has failed and discharge is performed by a discharge resistor. If the capacitor voltage is still above the predetermined value after the second predetermined time period, it is determined that the main contactor has failed and is fixed in a turned-on state.

  • Patent number: 5982152
Abstract: A wasteful consumption of electric energy supplied to charge a battery is reduced when the battery is charged with a low charging efficiency due to a high battery temperature. The battery, typically comprising nickel-hydrogen secondary cells, is prevented from being deteriorated due to a high battery temperature after the battery is charged. While the battery is being charged, the battery is cooled by a battery cooling unit to prevent the charging efficiency from being lowered. If the battery temperature rises above a predetermined temperature, a contactor is opened to temporarily stop the charging of the battery, and the battery is cooled by the battery cooling unit. After the battery is charged, the battery is cooled if the battery temperature is high.

Abstract: A polyolefin resin composition which comprises:(A) a polyolefin,(B) 0.1 to 100 parts of a core-shell graft copolymer prepared by graft copolymerizing (b) 5 to 60 parts by weight of a monomer component comprising a copolymerizable vinyl compound selected so that the glass transition temperature of a polymer of said monomer component alone is not less than 25.degree. C., onto (a) 40 to 95 parts by weight of a crosslinked rubber-like polymer having a glass transition temperature of not more than 25.degree. C., and(C) 0 to 400 parts of an inorganic filler, said parts of (B) and (C) being parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of (A). The above-mentioned polyolefin resin composition shows the excellent processability, impact resistance, rigidity and surface property.

  • Patent number: 5598087
Abstract: A battery monitor system for monitoring the residual capacity of a battery has a controller for determining the residual capacity of a battery, detecting the output electric power of the battery when the battery is being discharged, and correcting the residual capacity depending on the output electric power such that as the output electric power of the battery increases, a new residual capacity produced when the residual capacity is corrected decreases. The residual capacity may be corrected by subtracting a residual capacity corrective value, which increases as the output electric power of the battery increases, from the residual capacity. The residual capacity of the battery can accurately be determined and monitored depending on the output electric power from the battery.

  • Patent number: 5489648
Abstract: A modified polyolefin prepared from an aqueous suspension containing (a) a crystalline polyolefin, (b) 1 to 500 parts by weight of a vinyl monomer per 100 parts by weight of the crystalline polyolefin, and (c) 0.01 to 10 parts by weight of a radical polymerization initiator per 100 parts by weight of the vinyl monomer by impregnating the crystalline polyolefin (a) with the vinyl monomer (b) and heating the aqueous suspension to polymerize the vinyl monomer (b) at a temperature equal to or higher than a temperature at which the crystal region of the polyolefin (a) begins to substantially melt, which has an excellent effect of improving processability of other polyolefins and provides a polyolefin composition having excellent properties such as processability, impact resistance, rigidity and surface properties when the modified polyolefin is incorporated into polyolefins optionally with a core-shell graft copolymer and/or an inorganic filler.
