  • Patent number: 7013150
Abstract: To provide a terminal location estimation method capable of accurately estimating a location of a mobile terminal when providing information services according to the location of the terminal in a radio communication system. A positioning server sends a location measurement probe message to the mobile terminal in order to measure the location of the terminal. Each of base stations receives a response message broadcasted from the terminal, measures the reception level and delay spread and sends the measurement results to the positioning server. The positioning server has a radio wave propagation estimating portion and a database for storing estimation results thereof. The server estimates the location of the terminal by checking the measurement results of the base stations against the estimation results on radio wave propagation stored in the database.

  • Patent number: 6961321
Abstract: A mobile terminal and method of controlling the same, each that can integrally move between an infrastructure network and an ad hoc network. The mobile terminal can interconnect an infrastructure network and an ad hoc network while moving. In an address management process, a connection network identification process, and a destination address capture process which are needed to establish communications with the terminal connected to a network, an infrastructure network connection procedure is integrated with an ad hoc network connection procedure. The integrated configuration consists of an ad hoc/infrastructure network address management means, an ad hoc/infrastructure integration move management means, an ad hoc/infrastructure network integration destination address capture means. In each process, it is identified whether or not the mobile terminal is connected to an ad hoc network or infrastructure network, so that the procedure corresponding to the connected network is used.

  • Publication number: 20040185861
Abstract: In a radio communication system adapted to decide one channel out of a plurality of radio frequency channels, and to cause communication to be made between a radio base station and a child radio station, decision of the channel is made at a periodic timing in the radio base station to notify information relating to this decided channel to the child radio station. Also, a configuration is made so that whenever the channel is decided and switched, communication quality (interference state) of its channel is detected in an interference quantity determination section 140 to make the channel decision by making a reference to this communication quality as well. By doing so, less communication interruption time occurs, and an influence that is given to communication performance of a wireless LAN can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 6754291
Abstract: A method of outputting a demodulation result for soft-decision decoding is provided, which is comprised of the steps of: (a) detecting a channel distortion of a received signal generated in a communication channel using a training signal contained in the received signal and a reference training signal, outputting a channel distortion data: (b) generating a distortion-based reliability data from the channel distortion data; (c) compensating the received signal using the channel distortion data, generating a compensated, received signal; (d) demodulating the compensated, received signal and deciding the received signal thus demodulated using a soft decision technique, outputting a decision result; and (e) outputting a demodulation result using the decision result and the distortion-based reliability data.

  • Patent number: 6738375
Abstract: A packet receiver is provided that accurately estimates a frequency offset and a channel impulse response even when a transmitted packet is detected with an erroneous timing in a communication mode (typified by the LAN (local Area Network)) where packets are asynchronously transmitted, and thus provides a training sequence which can demodulate the received packet. The training sequence 101 is formed of K sequences 100-1 to 100-K serially connected, each formed of the same N symbols. Even in a channel where a inter-symbol interference occurs when such a training sequence is used, a received signal shifted by the time corresponding to N-symbols becomes the signal which is different by a phase difference caused by a frequency offset between the transmitter and the receiver. Thus, even if the head of a packet is detected with an erroneous timing, the frequency offset can be estimated.

  • Patent number: 6738439
Abstract: A diversity receiver having n (integer of 2 or more) antenna branches for receiving a packet made up of a preamble field and data field includes n first switches, second switch, packet detection circuit, and demodulation section. The n first switches receive signals respectively received by the n antenna branches and a “packet receive pulse” representing that a packet is being received, and change the output destination based on the “packet receive pulse”. The second switch receives an antenna switching signal and outputs from the n first switches, and when no “packet receive pulse” is output, selects and outputs the outputs from the n first switches based on the antenna switching signal. The packet detection circuit receives an output from the second switch, and when a packet is being received, outputs a “packet receive pulse”.

  • Patent number: 6700865
Abstract: An object of the present invention is to provide a diversity receiver having an excellent anti-multi-path fading characteristic in a further simple structure. A diversity receiver according to the present invention measures a reception level, delay spread and a phase of a burst OFDM modulates signal received by a plurality of antennas. Received signals of arbitrary antennas are combined for synthesization and demodulated in accordance with a result of measurement, thereby obtaining the excellent anti-multi-path fading characteristic.

  • Patent number: 6643339
Abstract: K sub-carrier components from an FFT circuit 101 are output to a sub-carrier demodulating circuit 102. The sub-carrier demodulating circuit 102 demodulates the k sub-carrier components and outputs a transmitted information bit to an output terminal 104. Further, the sub-carrier demodulating circuit 102 outputs distortion correction coefficients C(1)-C(k) that are used during demodulation of each sub-carrier, each of sub-carrier components S(1)-S(k) in which distortion is corrected, and determination signal points R(1)-R(k) for each sub-carrier to a phase estimating circuit 103. The phase estimating circuit 103 receives C(1)-C(k), R(1)-R(k) and S(1)-S(k), and outputs a phase error signal to an output terminal 105. The phase error signal output to the output terminal 105 is integrated by a loop filter and so forth, and is fed back to a local oscillator, and thereby, phase tracking is conducted.

  • Publication number: 20020142744
Abstract: An alerting device allowing easy estimation of possible interference and useful suggestions to eliminate deteriorated communication quality due to interference is disclosed. A signal including a band used by a target radio communication system is selected from a received signal based on a prescribed system specification of the radio communication system. A detected signal level of the selected signal is detected and compared with the prescribed interference level. When the detected signal level is greater than the prescribed interference level, it is determined that interference occurs. Further, an interference source is estimated by analyzing the selected signal with respect to time and frequency components.

  • Patent number: 6415330
Abstract: An ad hoc LAN is set up in an environment in which there simultaneously exist a backbone-connected LAN connected by a high-speed backbone network and an ad hoc LAN not connected to the backbone network, wherein the ad hoc LAN is capable of communicating simultaneously with both LANs. An ad hoc LAN is defined as one multicast group used within the backbone network and backbone-connected LAN. This makes it possible for a terminal, which is connected to the ad hoc LAN and backbone-connected LAN simultaneously so that it may communicate with both LANs, to participate in the ad hoc LAN in the same manner as it would participate in a multicast group of a conventional backbone-connected LAN. As a result, the terminal construction is simplified and the terminal can be connected to an ad hoc LAN and backbone-connected LAN simultaneously.
