  • Patent number: 5110544
Abstract: A stainless steel exhibiting excellent anticorrosion property for use in engine exhaust systems comprises not more than 0.010% C, not more than 0.2% Si, 0.05%-1.5% Mn, 12%-20% Cr, 0.2%-3.0% Mo, 0.005%-0.1% Al, not more than 0.015% N, not more than 0.025% P, not more than 0.010% S, either or both of 10.times.(C %+N %)-0.5% Ti and 5.times.(C %+N %) 0.5% Nb, and the balance of Fe and unavoidable impurities. An additional improvement in the anticorrosion property of the stainless steel can be obtained by further adding thereto one or more of 0.1%-1.0% Ni, 0.03%-1.0% Cu, 0.05%-0.5% W, 0.05%-0.5% V and 0.05%-1.0% Zr and/or one or both of 0.001%-0.03% Ca and 0.001%-0.03% Ce.

  • Patent number: 4663245
Abstract: A zinc- or zinc alloy-hot-dipped, unpainted steel sheet having excellent black tarnish resistance, which has a coating of Ni, Co or a combination thereof deposited in an amount of from 0.1 to 15 mg/m.sup.2 on the zinc or zinc alloy plating layer of the sheet, and optionally a chromate layer on the deposited coating, is provided. The steel sheet is produced by immersing a zinc- or zinc alloy-hot-dipped steel sheet in an aqueous solution containing 1 to 20 g/l of Ni ions, Co ions or a combination thereof to deposit Ni, Co or a combination thereof in an amount of from 0.1 to 15 mg/m.sup.2 on the zinc or zinc alloy plating layer of the sheet, optionally followed by chromating in the usual manner.

  • Patent number: 4476805
Abstract: Passed through a chamber holding a non-oxidizing atmosphere substantially horizontally, a steel strip is continuously coated on one side only with a molten coating metal. An electromagnetic pump imparts a thrust to the molten coating metal on the entry side of a guide so as to form a stream of the molten metal rising above the bath surface on the exit side of the guide. The rising molten metal stream contacts the bottom surface of the strip to form a film of the coating metal thereon. Provision is made to offer less flow resistance to the rising stream widthwise then lengthwise, so that the molten coating metal flows positively toward both edges of the strip.

  • Patent number: 4461679
Abstract: A steel sheet plated with Pb-Sn alloy, suitable for use as the material of automobile fuel tanks for containing fuel having alcoholic content. The steel sheet has an NiSn alloy layer or a composite layer including a backing Ni layer and the NiSn alloy layer; the NiSn alloy layer or the composite layer being formed on the steel surface to have a thickness of 0.035 to 1.mu.; and a plating layer of Pb-Sn system alloy formed on the sole NiSn layer on the NiSn layer of the composite layer. The steel sheet plated with Pb-Sn alloy can be produced by plating the steel sheet with Ni backing, forming a Pb-Sn system alloy layer by a hot dip plating, and rapidly cooling the steel sheet. Alternatively, the steel sheet plated with Ni is subjected to successive electroplating with Sn and then with Pb, and is then treated at a specific temperature for melting and diffusing Sn into Ni to form the NiSn layer.

  • Patent number: 4152472
Abstract: A galvanized ferrous article having an adherent, ductile and highly corrosion resistant coating of galvanizing alloy which presents a matted surface which is free or substantially free of spangle and which is capable, upon application of a paint coating thereon, of strongly anchoring the paint coating to the galvanized coating, said galvanizing alloy comprising a zinc base alloy containing 3-10% preferably 3.5-10% by weight of aluminum and one or more elements of magnesium, calcium, beryllium, titanium and copper in amounts within the range specified in terms of the total weight of the lead and tin contained in the galvanizing alloy.
