  • Patent number: 5016006
Abstract: An audio alarm outputting device for an outboard engine includes a plurality of sensors for detecting abnormalities, such as in the cooling water flow, and a speech outputting circuit for receiving output signals from the plurality of sensors and outputting abnormal conditions of the signals in a vocalized form. A variable voice level setting circuit cooperable with the speech outputting circuit automatically increases in steps the output level of the speech outputting circuit as the engine speed increases.

  • Patent number: 4971583
Abstract: An apparatus for use in an outboard engine provides a voice alarm output when an abnormality of cooling water or the like is detected during operation of a radio or the like, the abnormal state being announced with a synthesized voice. The apparatus has a plurality of sensors for detecting the abnormality of the cooling water and the like, and a voice output circuit to receive detection signals from the sensors and to output a synthesized voice signal identifying the abnormal state. An acoustic reproducing apparatus such as a radio is provided, and a common speaker is used to output the radio output or the voice output signal of the voice output circuit. A voice discriminating switching circuit is provided between the voice output circuit and the acoustic reproducing apparatus. The voice discriminating circuit detects the level of an output signal of the voice output circuit and temporarily switches the speaker from the acoustic reproducing apparatus to the voice output circuit in response to the level.

  • Patent number: 4940965
Abstract: A vocal alarm arrangement includes a plurality of sensors, including a sensor for detecting an abnormality in cooling water, a sensor for detecting an abnormality in an oil level, and the like, and also includes a voice outputting circuit to which outputs from the sensors are coupled and which displays abnormalities in a vocalized form, the outputs from the plurality of sensors being given a predetermined order of priority, and the signals from the sensors being processed in accordance with the specified order of priority so abnormalities are presented as alarms in a vocalized form according to such order priority.

  • Patent number: 4930475
Abstract: A rotational speed control system for an engine includes controls for determining whether the throttle is closed beyond a predetermined position, whether the engine is mechanically loaded, and whether the engine rotational speed exceeds a predetermined speed. A control delays the ignition timing of the engine when the throttle is closed beyond the predetermined position, the engine is not mechanically loaded, and the rotational speed exceeds the predetermined speed.

  • Patent number: 4887068
Abstract: A display control apparatus for use in an internal combustion engine includes: a CDI type ignition circuit; an overspeed preventing circuit which can limit the engine speed to a restricted value; a first LED display unit of the light on/off type to display the amounts of oil and/or cooling water; a second LED display unit to display the circulation state of the oil and/or cooling water; and a drive circuit which switches the first and second display units to an alarm display mode and causes the overspeed preventing circuit to limit engine speed when abnormal states of the oil and/or cooling water are detected by oil level switches or by water and oil flow sensors. If power ceases, the display state is held by keep relays. When an abnormal state is detected, the driver is warned by lighting up of red LEDs and by generating a beeping sound from a buzzer.

  • Patent number: 4883928
Abstract: A float switch and a control apparatus of an internal combustion engine are disclosed. This float switch comprises a float attached to a main body so as to be vertically swung around one end thereof, a magnetic material fixed to the float, and a contact adapted to be closed or opened in response to the approach or removal of the magnetic material. The float switch is provided in the pathway of a collant passage and a lubricating oil passage of the engine. The control apparatus has a warning apparatus which is operative in response to an absence signal from the float switch which is indicative of the absence of the fluid that is being sensed, and has a rotating speed control apparatus to reduce the engine speed. The absence of the fluid is informed to the operator by the warning and the speed reduction. A warning apparatus for an outboard engine to control the engine speed when an abnormality occurs is also provided.

  • Patent number: 4697560
Abstract: A rotating speed control apparatus for controlling the rotating speed of an internal combustion engine includes: an ignition circuit of a capacitive discharge ignition (CDI) system; an overspeed preventing circuit having a rotating speed detecting circuit for reducing the rotating speed of the engine to a restricted value in response to an overspeed condition; and a cut-off circuit which temporarily inhibits the control of the engine speed by way of an overspeed prevention inhibiting operation and which is automatically returned to a condition in which it can control the engine speed during restarting of the engine after a stop of the engine. The overspeed preventing circuit is cut off by turning on the cut-off circuit when the engine is driven, so that the overspeed preventing function is inhibited. This cut-off circuit is automatically returned to its off-state when restarting the engine after a stop of the engine, thereby allowing an overspeed of the engine to be prevented.
