  • Patent number: 7365933
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention provide optimum servo patterns for perpendicular magnetic recording method. In one embodiment, a burst field of servo patterns is composed of burst-signal parts in each of which a constant frequency occurs successively and zero-signal parts each of which has been demagnetized to a state of zero-magnetization, and the total magnetization of the burst field is made approximately 0. The zero signal portions are formed by shutting off a write current at a time during an operation to record servo patterns on a disk initialized to a state of zero-magnetization. The total magnetization of all servo patterns is made approximately 0 by encoding an address mark field and a track code field of servo patterns by a phase shift method.

  • Patent number: 7365930
Abstract: Formation of wear powder caused by wear of a ramp which is attributable to mutual contact of a lift tab and the ramp is to be reduced in loading and unloading operations. In one embodiment, a spindle motor is turned on by application of power, then the temperature of a ramp is measured and it is determined whether the temperature of the ramp has reached a preset temperature (about 25° C.) or not. If the answer is negative, a heater is energized to heat the ramp for raising the temperature of the ramp. When it is detected that the temperature of the ramp has reached the preset temperature, the heating of the ramp is stopped and the execution of loading and unloading operations is permitted, then an ordinary processing is started.

  • Publication number: 20080090538
Abstract: An arbitrary threshold value (Ei0) is established which defines a boundary as to activating an RF-AGC circuit (21) if the value of the field intensity (Ei) of a received signal is greater than what value while the value of the field intensity of a signal at a desired frequency being a predetermined value (Ei0) in a weak field area. The established value (Ei0) is used to provide a threshold value establishing/controlling part (22) that controls the ON/OFF of the operation of the RF-AGC circuit (21). In this way, a set maker or the like of an IC including an automatic gain control part (11) can perform a field test or the like such that a preferable value obtained by a result of the field test or the like can be used as an AGC start level (Ei0), whereby an optimum AGC control can be performed based on the preferable AGC start level (Ei0).
