    Abstract: A projection type display apparatus (50) includes: a plurality of light sources (100a) and (100b); a light source control section (101) configured to control each of the plurality of light sources (100a) and (100b); a plurality of fans (102a) and (102b), provided to correspond to the plurality of light sources (100a) and (100b), respectively, for cooling the corresponding light sources; and a fan diagnosis section (104) configured to diagnose a state of each of the plurality of fans (102a) and (102b). When a malfunction of one of the plurality of fans (102a) and (102b) is detected by the fan diagnosis section (104) while the plurality of light sources (100a) and (100b) are lit up, the light source control section (101) turns off one of the light sources corresponding to the one fan and continues to light up the remainder of the light sources.
