  • Publication number: 20080254348
Abstract: A battery pack includes a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery, a rigid covering member, and a protection circuit board. The secondary battery includes a battery element and a flexible covering member formed of a first laminated film composed of a first heat-bonding layer, a first metal layer, and a first outer covering layer laminated successively. The flexible covering member is sealed along around the battery element while leaving electrode terminals of the positive and negative electrodes extended outside the battery element. The rigid covering member is formed of a second laminated film composed of a second heat-bonding layer, a second metal layer, and a second outer covering layer laminated successively. The flexible covering member and the rigid covering member are bonded with an adhesive strength equal to or higher than atmospheric pressure and with a peel strength equal to or lower than a breaking strength of the flexible covering member.

  • Publication number: 20070287063
Abstract: By using a DI molding method or a roll forming method, a casing member made of a thin cylindrical metal pipe is formed and molded so as to almost coincide with a shape of a battery element, thereby forming an outer casing. A power generating element to which a circuit board has been connected is enclosed in the outer casing and opening portions of the outer casing are closed by a front cap and a rear cap formed by, for example, a resin molding, thereby forming a battery pack. The power generating element is used by externally covering the battery element with a laminate film or the battery element is enclosed as it is into the outer casing. To suppress the penetration of the moisture into the battery, it is also possible to mix a moisture trapper for absorbing the moisture into a resin material of the front cap and rear cap and suppress the penetration of the moisture.

  • Publication number: 20070059595
Abstract: In a polymer electrolyte battery including a battery element having a cathode and an anode coiled through a polymer electrolyte, a section of the battery element perpendicular to the coiling axis has a curved form. As compared with a polymer electrolyte battery having a flat plate type battery element curved, the former battery has an extremely low possibility of short-circuit at the end of an electrode and excellent battery characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20060127760
Abstract: A highly safety cell is provided in which short-circuiting is unlikely to occur. In order to prevent short-circuiting, for example, burrs generated when a laminate film used as an exterior packaging material is cut are prevented from penetrating an interior resin layer of the laminate film. When an electrode terminal extension side of the laminate film is thermal welded, heating and compression are performed by a heater head on a part of the laminate film apart from the edge portion thereof so that the thickness of the above edge portion is larger than that of a thermal welded portion. In addition, thermal welding is performed so that the thickness of a thermal welded portion including an electrode terminal is larger than that of a thermal welded portion including no electrode terminal, and as a result, short-circuiting can be more effectively prevented.

A battery element comprising a cathode and an anode is accommodated in a film-shaped casing. The casing includes a metal layer, a resin layer disposed on a side of the metal layer closer to the battery element with an adhesive layer in between, and a resin layer disposed on a side of the metal layer opposite to the side where the resin layer is formed with an adhesive layer in between. The adhesive layer has a water vapor transmission rate of 800 g/m2·day or less for a thickness of 25 &mgr;m at 40° C. and 90% RH and a thickness of 10 &mgr;m or less. Thereby, even if the sealing width is reduced, the entry of water into the battery can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6368744
Abstract: A nonaqueous electrolyte battery is disclosed which has an improved volume energy density and satisfactory impact resistance, a heat radiating characteristic and producibility. The battery element is accommodated in a casing constituted by a laminate film so as to be sealed by welding. Electrode-terminal leads electrically conducted to electrodes which constitute the battery element are sandwiched by welded portions so as to be exposed to the outside portion of the casing. A control circuit of the battery is mounted on a welded portion of the casing. Since the control circuit of the battery is mounted on the welded portion of the casing, the space in the battery in which the battery element is not present can effectively be used. Therefore, the volume efficiency can considerably be improved.
